Who Will Be the Villain of the Next Superman Film?

Source:  Latino Review
Superman and Lex Luthor go together like Batman and the Joker, so it may come as a surprise that Warner Brothers executives are actively looking to use a villain other than Luthor for the next Superman film project. According to El Mayimbe at Latino Review, the studio is soliciting scripts featuring a new villain from Superman's Rogues Gallery.

Although the studio is listening to pitches, and asking writers to use a different main villain (although it is certainly possible that we could still see Luthor in a minor role), they haven't yet decided on any specific script or villain.

Warner's seems committed to making Superman into as viable a franchise as Batman is, and it is true that the film responsible for re-inventing Batman, Batman Begins, didn't feature any of Batman's most well-known villains. So, maybe focusing on a villain like Braniac, Metallo, Darkseid, Doomsday, the Toyman or General Zod would work well for the film.

It is worth noting that Kevin Spacey, who played Lex Luthor in Superman Returns, has gone on record as saying that he'll be back for the sequel, tentatively titled Superman: The Man of Steel - which seems to contradict this report. Keep reading SuperheroFlix.com and MovieWeb.com for more news about the next Superman film as it becomes available.

"Superman: The Man of Steel" ~ is this even legit news anymore?!? It seems to me to be just more speculation. Until I hear, "The Next Superman in Development," all I will say to this is what I have been saying each time new speculation of this potential film is posted:

BRAINIAC.

It may not fall into place with the comic series, but I am of the opinion that they should create a new villain to square off with the Man of Steel. I would not be against it if they introduced a worthy opponent to play opposite of our hero Superman.

If the film is going to be a reboot then Doomsday wont be in it. Death of Superman should be a seperate series just like how Snyder wants to do The Dark Knight returns. I would love to see Darkseid in a Superman movie. The only thing is I would love to see the other DC comic heroes squared up against him. Darkseid and Braniac could be great villians in the Justice Leauge movie.

COMRADE.....who said anything about him being like thr transformers??? and i kno he cant b gritty or throw a guy off a building like batman, i dont want that, i just wanna see someone push him to that edge for once in a live action movie, i wanna see the carnage that would come out of a great superman fight, look at cinema today and u'll see its whats needed to make him into a better franchise of a movie. i kno its ounds wrong considering his back ground in the comics and all that heroic always the shining light and being the best. well i'm done repeating myself.

Are they going to make this or what? REBOOT!!

The point of Superman is that he doesn't do those things. He has to continually represent the best in humans (ironic for an alien).
That is why he and Batman find common ground. They believe in the power of redemption from corruption, not just victory over it. He has to constantly keep his powers in check and avoid causing damage, lest he be as bad as those he fights. He's not a fucking Transformer for Christ's sake.

as nice as something like that fan-made youtube trailer "superman:reborn:"......its a lil tooooo much, i say stop showing the origins, stick to one physically challengin character, that right there is tooo many kinda like spidey 3, too much explaining and everything without an actual good story, stick to lex in the back ground and just add in someone thats just whipping supermans ass all over the place, dont make it dark like TDK just more grown up and add some animal to superman, like i said b4 lets see him draw some blood, break a sweat, and not worry about what hotel he tackles the guy throu

That why i recommend writing your GL saga

How do you think that WB though of doing World's Finest, some random guy whom was a fan of Batman and Superman wrote a script and posted it online on the net and WB bought it off him.
But then they decided to make 2 franchises instead of one

You do know Superman Reborn is an actual written Superman Script, it was made to be the 5th Superman film and final film for Christopher Reeves but that was before his accident.

It was actually written by a fan but WB liked it so much they cut it into seperate pieces, spanned them around on the web then took them off lol.
I managed to get hold of all 4 seperate pieces in PDF Format

I saw that, J.A., a few days ago from Wormy TV. It was alright, but I didn't like that they chose Tom Welling to edit in there as Supes...I still think Josh Brolin could do it

The title's also good, but I like the sound of "Superman: Rebirth" better...they both have "er" sounds in them lol

Hugo Weaving for Brainiac

4. Brainiac
5. Parasite

Im sick of Lex Luthor

I don't want superman to look like 20 year old Arnold Shwarzenegger. How would that not be conspicuous? Everybody fucking forgets that he has to be Clark Kent as well, it's not good enough just to be the hero persona, you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE the human persona.

i agree with drella on the villian should b physically taunting on superman, it should push him to his limits, i mean hell lets see some of superman animalistic side to where he just battered n bruised and just pissed that he cant overcome this obstacle, leave lex in it as a back ground just to keep the formality of everything true (and plus spacey does it good if given a good script), but for once can we see superman break a sweat and draw some blood from a heavy battle and not giving a shit of the property damage he is gonna cause shovin his boot in whomevers ass

i think that the vilian should be just as powerful as superman? we all no that hero's that get their ass kick sales! look at it like this, the only two people that showed that they give superman hell is darksied an doomsday! i'm a real comic fan for years, this the best way to go, it worked blade 2, darknight, ironman, the spiderman franchise an x-men, bottem line you need a good villian to sale the movie! if you don't give the people something other them lex..it's gonna be a flap an you can't blame anybody but yourselves!

Funny stuff BD HAHA the Hugo Weaving thing is a good point. I was thinking more like V for Vendetta or his voice work as Megatron from the Transformers movie. The man has a helluva voice for villains

well it all depends on who is writing the script i guess J.A., if he didnt talk any in returns it wouldn't have hurt him any then probably everyone would not have that he wasnt fit fo the part and hadn't dropped his balls yet,
now if they can get someone with the look and demeanor and voice of the cartoon then i believe that would be mor fittin,
i just wasnt impressed with routh, looked as if theydidnt even try lookin for a good person to play the part they just settled.

Why would you hope that Superman wouldn't talk? The appeal of the character is that he's not just a resident idiot strongman. He is an incredibly complex being with some of the most fascinating aspects of any character in comics. I want to hear what goes on in his mind as much as possible.
