New Judge Dredd Movie Greenlit

Source:  2000 AD
Judge DreddIt seems that we may see a re-imagined version of a futuristic judge in the near future. 2000 AD has revealed that a brand new Judge Dredd film has been greenlit.

The production companies 2000 AD and Rebellion will be teaming up with DNA Films, which has produced Sunshine and 28 Days Later, for the new movie.

"We can't give away too many details at this point, but we're looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen," said Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director for 2000 AD.

It was said that the film will begin production in 2009.

I actually like the first one. I agree, I think Clive Owen would be a good choice.

Ridley Scott has made some poor films at the moment but they were good.
American Gangster could have been so much more better, and there was a lot left out from the true story that would have fit perfectly into the film.
Body of Lies for a film based around terrorism cold have been so much better too also not to mention it had 2 great casts in the lead Crowe & Dicaprio, but it just felt poor, i don't know maybe it was just me walking in the film with high expectations of a spectacular terrorist film.

But that doesn't mean i hate Scott, i've got 3 films of his that i'm anticipating and i hope he is still doing them because he has a tendency to change his film scehdule without letting the public or his fans know.
But here they are

Nottingham
The anticipation and wait for this movie has been mad, it almost feels like a James Cameron film lol, but with Crowe as Sheriff of Nottingham, this may just be his best performance since Gladiator and Beautiful mind, Plus im interested to see this reboot to the Robin Hood Myth

Blood Meridian
Read the book and your find out why this is exciting, but i;m worried due to how graphic the book actually is, so hopefully the film is as grphic as the book.

And here goes with the last one, heck i know you lot will probably ridicule me for this but fuck it

MONOPOLY
I came up with my own concept for this film, and i'd like to see if Scott's vision is roughly the same as mine to turn this into one epic serious comedy

Body of Lies was awesome and that was recent, so yeah, maybe Ridley could do this

Can't be worse than the first attempt. I would love to see Ridley Scott take a swing at this. I know many think his films of late are lacking, but I was satisfied.

Cillian Murphy was an excellent Scarecrow. lolz.

Anyway, John Carpenter's an interesting take. I know that I trust him with pretty much anything after getting "John Carpenter's Vampires" and "Halloween" from the man.

I know it's crazy, but what about John Carpenter. He has experience with futuristic movies. He also delivers great perspectives, and a comic book adaptation film would be a great addition to his filmography.

Lol, So i guess that's a no on the Tamahori idea.

Have you noticed that the production team has cast Cillian Murphy in both films? He might make an appearance in this.

The original Judge Dredd wasnt very good, in my opinion Judge Dredd is one of those superheros who was never meant to be put on the big screen, plus his costume is way too over the top.

Die Another Day is the "Batman & Robin" of James Bond films. Except for no nipple tuxedoes thankfully.

Die Another Day wasn't so bad, the chase on Ice was pretty cool, but the song was ace, so was the video to the song.

But XXX2 was damn right disaster, i'm sorry that film was a load of bullocks for an Agent film, whatever bloody genre you wanna put it in.

XXX 2 and Die Another Day are possibly the shittiest films in their respective franchises.

December 23rd, 2008 1:49pm
Well, when i first thought about the director choice, Len Wiseman came to mind, but i just finished watching and XXX 2 and Die Another Day. Lee Tamahori would be an excellent choice. His action scenes are off the wall, but it's very appropriate for this futuristic sci-fi movie.

Ok this is interesting, the original was pretty good as long as they keep tp the comics and no taking off the helmet, plz

DNA are good i wasn't impressed with 28 Days, but Sunshine's SFX blew me away. So the SFX should be top notch.

Ok for Judge Dredd he are my top nominators not in any order.

weakest choice
Jason Stantham (But his acting ablility is poor, but he has the tough guy image)

3rd top choice
Clive Owen (He looks for the role plus he has the hard image and good acting skills.)

2nd top choice
Daniel Craig (Need we say any more because his Bond, he gained his tough guy image plus his hard edge and he can act brilliantly from portraying emotion.)

Top Choice is
Ron Pearlman (He owns the looks and plays hell boy, Pearlman has the build to and the strong chin to match, and is definately got a strong accent, near the same as Stallone. That could work more well in portraying the character, he can play emotion pretty good too.)

But who shall direct?

lol I love Judge Dread. You have to have someone big, like the guy who plays Lincoln Burrows from Prison Break or something.

Evil, Bale is the dumbest choice to play Dredd, where the fuck did you get an idea about that. Just because you choke someone doesn't make you Dredd material. If Rourke wants to do this, the crew will not hesitate and they'll take him, immediately.

I think the first film was good,to look at perfect in every way but what spoiled it was Dredd taking his helmet off then it just became a Stallone movie, so i have to argee with Tyier13d on this.Who to play Dredd ..cant think of anyone other than Bale, based on one scene in TDK where he has the Joker up agaist the wall by his throat,he has Dredds mouth perfect lol

drich, I think Burgi definitely looks the part, but I've never seen his work.
You used "president" (the head of a country) instead of "precedent" (a string of events acting as an example or guide)

Lol Tyler. For this role you need a tall actor.....hmmmm....

Just as long as he keeps the helmet on till the bitter end no matter what.

Also, you don't like Bale but he made a fantastic Batman

...That's about Owen, not Rourke...don't want any miscommunications lol

He doesn't just look like him, he's got the acting chops to pull it off, too

drich90212-your proposal of using Mickey Rourke is an awesome idea! He's got the build & the grunt to pass it. I only hope they'll go to a sfx expert for wardrobe instead of going to some french womans clothes designer like they did the last. It may have passed for look, but it didnt look practical use, hopefully someone will do a good representation of it by remaining faithful to the outfit, but it will look like something that wont tear in a scuffle.

Judge Dredd is one of the best comic characters ever created and needs to be done correctly on screen. The key to the character is his lack of emotion; he's not a robot but his personality is completely tied in with what is right or wrong in the eyes of the law. That's the reason behind his catch phrase 'I am the law ', He has no regard for the other trivialities of life like love - he only loves the law anything else has been burned from his psyche or repressed. That's the point of the character and what makes him unique, he's like a machine with no regard for even himself and he'll go to any degree to protect the law of his city.
The screen writer of the original movie (William Wisher I think) had absolutely no idea about how to portray the character. When it comes down to it - Dredd is simple to write when you realize that he only has one real motivation, and all the comedy and absurdity in the comic arise from his tunnel vision in following the letter of the law. Hes a man who IS a machine - More than Robobop.
If you want an emotional center to a Dredd story - that will come from other characters like Chopper, Anderson or PJ Maybe - not Dredd himself.
There are presidents onscreen of characters that we like but don't really 'Know ' - COLUMBO being one example - it can be done, so there's no need for Hollywood to muck it up again.
Get Pat Mills Alan Grant or John Wagner involved with the script they're all geniuses.
Actor wise I think Clint Eastwood was the template but its too late for him now. Mickey Rourke would be a better choice than Perlman, either would be good. Bruce Campbell? On looks alone the actor Richard Burgi would be a good choice - Look him up. All this talk of jonny depp tom welling or clive owen is wrong.
DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME

Yes, it was a British comic, but the setting was in New York City and the guy was American, so he should be American. Also, i think the american action hero are just in the process stage of generating new comers. Mark Walberg to start with.
