Fox Looking for Watchmen Delay

There are two characters named Sandman in DC. You want the ones written by Neil Gaiman (though the Wesley Dodds stories are great).

No, actually, Sandman is collected in eleven trade paperbacks.

i think I'll read new avengers and then probably read the book of sandman (it is one book right?).

A normal comic issue is around 22 pages and when put into trade form, there's usually 6 issues(give or take, depending on the story) per trade.

It's not complicated FOY. The basic premise is a group of "fugitive" heroes who went underground after Civil War because they refused to reveal their identities to the government. #48 is probably the best jumping on point because it's a roster change. However, I do suggest picking up the TPBs, not because it's a complicated story but because they're just good lol

However, those All-Star books are probably best if you just want limited releases instead of ongoing comics where you'll have to stick with it until it's canceled or it doesn't interest you anymore lol I also forgot to mention anything by Brad Meltzer because he hasn't wrote a comic in a while. His Identity Crisis is now in HC(idk if it's in TPB form) and so is his run on Justice League of America. He's not very action packed in the sense of traditional event/team comics, but he's a great storyteller

well I actually got into borders' site and got some info on some books. I thought sandman was like one book or something like watchmen y'know.
anyways, I will try them, but I still have one question, who many pages does an issue include like ALOT or arround 200 pages or arround 100 or like what? :S

Most of what we will see from YA avengers until Heinberg and Cheung actually start the legitimate "SEASON 2" are going to be limiteds related to events and some one-shots.
New Avengers is definitely in Marvel's top 3 mainstream series at this point.
Sandman is a long series, so be mindful of what you're getting into, but it's legendary for a reason.

I'll be sure to take those names in considirations, but now i am finishing twilight and am going to start on my cearque du freak books, also I am going to start with my eragon series. and then I'll start considering what you told me. I think i'll start with Sandman cause it looked nice.
i think I'll try some spidey also but not wolverine. I really didn't like him alot and am not that much of a big fan of the x-men movies. But y'know I LOVE SPIDERMAN. I'll try batmans.
Wait VIS, do you think I'll understand everything If I started with the issue 48 of new avengers. DUNNO seems like i'd be missing alot. Like just asking if it is a kind of those really complicated stories or simplier.

Also, I think I'll stick with the movie of Sin City, just because i don't want to go into the comic book stuff of it. y'know. well I gues I'll start by the easy stuff first cause i don't want the harder stuff to get me crazy with big words. lol. well thanks for the help though.

What Comrade said is good, too, I just wanted to, well, RANT, and give more examples of good stuff I read. Young Avengers was very unique considering the fact that it's, well, YOUNG Avengers. I think everybody considered it to be a Teen Titans rip-off when they first heard of it, but it was actually quite more than that. Any idea when that series is going to start up again, Comrade? It's been on hiatus for a while, but I'm glad the characters are still showing up in events(cuz Marvel has enough of 'em)

I also recommend "The Umbrella Academy" for Dark Horse and "Project Superpowers" form Dynamite Entertainment(since I suggested ones for Marvel and DC). Umbrella Academy is really creative, and it shocked me because it's written by Gerard Way, the lead singer for a rock band. I have the first mini-series, which should be in trade form by now, and there's supposedly going to be more mini-series, like Hellboy does it. Superpowers teams Jim Kreuger and Alex Ross, who, like Loeb and Sale, make a great team. It's also a series of mini-series, with ongoing spin-offs of the characters. The trade should be out soon, if not already

I don't read any Image Comics. I've heard Invincible is good, but I never started with it. btw, I also suggest the new ongoing Thor series from J. Michael Strazynski, especially since it's only been going for a year, which means not a lot of catching up to do, and the Thor movie will be released soon, so I'm betting Thor comics will become popular like Iron Man did. Marvel even started a new "Invincible Iron Man" series in the aftermath of the film's success(this comic is also worth reading). I wasn't interested in Iron Man before, but he's become a central figure since Civil War and the movie. I also have another suggestion for DC: the All-Star books(All Star Superman and All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder) if you're looking for the some of the best talent in the industry teaming up to tell stand alone tales of big characters. This is why it's not just an Ultimate line rip-off, because the series are limited. Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely did all star superman and it was some of the best reading I did this year. The trade including all 12 issues is out now. All star batman and robin is from Frank Miller and Jim Lee, two of the best people to work on Batman...ever. It's a bit weird, but it's classic Miller if you're a fan. The first trade for that I believe is out now, and the series is longer that all star superman, so there'll be another.

idk if anyone is going to take these suggestions, but once you got talking about comics I wanted to rant lmao There's more, but these are the main ones I'd suggest if you want to get back into or start with mainstream comics. Thanks for reading ;)

You're right Fallen, Loeb is also great. His "Hush" story was fucking amazing and his team-ups with Tim Sale pretty much always deliver. His Superman/Batman run was great, too. After he left that title, I lost interest in it. However, he's gotten kind of...ridiculous, I guess, with his writings as of late. In fact, I think it's been like that ever since he left DC for Marvel...his son dying probably didn't help matters, either. Ultimates 3 sucked compared to the first 2 by Millar, but I think Marvel rushed him so they could release this "Ultimatum" event. It was only 5 issues compared to the 13 each for 1 and 2. If he had more time I think it could have been better.

Marvel's New Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis is also a great book if you're looking for mainstream stuff. It's kind of it's own series but still ties into what's going on, so if you've been out of the loop for a while, it's a good book to read. Good stories, snappy dialogue, lots of fan fav characters like Spidey and Wolverine...if you're planning on picking this up, the latest issue(#58) is a great jumping on point because there's a roster change. idk if anyone is planning to, but I figured since we were talking comics, I'd bring it up lol

As for DC, Green Lantern by Geoff Johns is fucking epic. Johns knows how to tell an epic story, he does it with pretty much everything he touches. He's coming off Sinestro Corp War and jumping right into "Rage of the Red Lanterns"...can't wait for Blackest Night...it's like a trilogy of stories. Very interesting and action packed, and the thing about it is, is that Johns and Bendis are two very different writers. Bendis seems to tell more story in the pictures and expressions of the characters. He's gone nearly half a comic with no dialogue before. Johns on the other hand tends to get dialogue heavy but it usually clears things up and leads into some heavy action. Two great mainstream books if you're thinking about grabbing some TPBs

But yeah, the obvious favorites are Alan Moore, Frank Miller, etc. They pretty much create their own universes. I haven't read too much of Neal Gaiman's work, but he's writing a Batman story in the aftermath of "Batman R.I.P." called "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?"(modeled after Moore's "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?")

I'd say Alan Moore, Frank Miller, and definitely Tolkien are my favorite writers. Jeph Loeb aint that bad too, but whatever.

Neil gaiman and alan moore are the best authors.

Later on, you can start reading more challenging stuff, translations and the like. Dante's "Inferno"/Comedia, some Kafka and Dostoyevsky. If you like his stifling style, Tolkien. Michael Chabon. Steinbeck can serve as an intermediary between the stuff below and some of the more difficult works.

Trade Paperback. Think of comics series as TV series, and TPB like DVD collections of seasons (less or more depending on how recent the series is, if it's still ongoing, etc.).
The Eragon books are good, very imaginative (the movies are terrible), Cirque Du Freak, also good. You know how I feel about Twilight. If you've never read Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass, try to find those. Harry Potter is a fun read, and undoubtedly has more credence than Twilight. Richard Matheson, Douglas Adams and Kurt Vonnegut are excellent authors to look into, and if you like horror, H.P. Lovecraft wrote some terrifying shit. I understand that you're still learning the language, so these are all pretty good to start with, but don't be intimidated if they seem a little dense. Right now, reading Watchmen is a great move.
In terms of comics: Any of Frank Miller's Batman stuff, and obviously Sin City. The Crow by James O'Barr. Invincible is a good series that's really recent. Batman: The Long Halloween. You might like X-Men: First Class, and Young Avengers is a great series. Go to your ocal bbokstore and try to find their comics/GN section, and seriously just pick something, flip through it and see if it might appeal to you. Once you get an idea of what your taste is, you may want to start looking into buying online.
Oh, and how could I forget: Neil Gaiman's The Sandman (Gaiman is actually a great author of novels too, check out Anansi Boys, Stardust, or Coraline)

alright it is not that hard to answer to that question, listen I know who to respect and who not to respect, and this argument ,or the one we had on street fighter's article (they are kinda both the same though), I tried to fight your opinion about something and i didn't really try to fight you presonally, I wouldn't want to say anything like I would listen just because you are bigger kinda shit. I only want to say my opinion freely without someone getting in the way of me doing it. I'd like if you try to give me an advice and I would try to make myself better through that advice. (this is mostly what comrade did, he gave me an advice without getting to offend me personally)
now on the other hand VIS, I was offened big time with your first comment, mabey if you said it nicer I would just take that as an advice and just get over it. but by you saying shit to me (which offend me) I had to comeback to this and answer for the fact that NOBODY likes to put his dignity down and just shut up when someone offends him.

That's NOT what I said VIS. I know plenty of people my age and older that spout nothing but crap, and I know a number of young people who are very sharp. To me, experience is more important than age. You understand what it's like when you look around and see people your age doing and saying things that eight-year-olds would know better than to do or say. It makes things harder for you.
In a way, age is also helpful in determining a person's mindset and motivation. It works to both your advantage and disadvantage.

And if you're reading Watchmen, you've definitely got a good start.
