Warner Bros. to Bring Tom and Jerry to the Big Screen

Source:  Variety
In a story from Variety, Warner Bros. will be turning Tom and Jerry into a big screen family franchise. The plan is for the main characters to be in CG but they will be placed in live-action settings.

Producer Dan Lin will be adapting the Hanna-Barbera characters for this project. It will begin with their first meeting, how they don't get along and then "reluctantly working together during an arduous journey home."

Writing the screenplay will be Eric Gravning.

It looks like Alvin and the Chipmunks $360 million dollar haul for Fox is what helped Warner Bros. decide to move in this direction. Also, ancillary markets like DVDs, video games and sequel potential also factored into the decision.

Tom and Jerry started as a set of 114 animated shorts that were made by MGM from 1940 to 1960. These won 7 Academy Awards.

I'm sorry Vamp, but I'm with the others when I say Scooby Doo was a huge failure in my opinion.

Tom and Jerry is the shit, but I say scrap this and head to the real animated titans...the fucking Looney Tunes. We all need a bit more Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian in our lives these days. Someone in hollytarded needs to get on that one. A gigantic animated Looney Tunes fiasco. No live action, straight animation.

The "Scooby Doo" movie, the "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" movie, the "Garfield" movies, and the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie are all good. I'm VERY interested in seeing how this goes!

I hope it works, a live action won't do the series any justice maybe they should go for the tintin approach.

I can remember all the great episodes the one with the ice,the one with the fireworks and the one with the bull, man it will be good.

Oh, don't even bring up The Cat in the Hat, Vis. I also agree with Chad and the Fallen.
This will be interesting. But do Tom and Jerry talk? I don't remember if they do or don't; or how how it would matter, anyway?

One of my favorite cartoons as a kid. I hope they don't make this into some messed up, cheesey, twisted excuse for a movie with "Tom and Jerry" just stamped on it.

Not a bad idea if done correctly. If they don't make it campy. More Over the Hedge and less Scooby Doo lol
