The Goonies Sequel Officially Dead
October 17th, 2008
It seems that a classic 80s film will no longer be sequelized. According to a tiny blurb at the bottom of a Variety story, The Goonies 2 is officially dead, according to The Goonies director Richard Donner."We tried really hard, and Steven (Spielberg) said, 'Let's do it.' We had a lot of young writers submit work, but it just didn't seem to call for it," Donner said.
Donner did hint at another way this franchise might be revived. "I'm in the process of trying to get it done as a musical on Broadway. Wouldn't that be great?"

Hairspray sucks.
Hairspray was great on stage, don't get me wrong, but...wait...you're being sarcastic, aren't you rad? You're a hard man to read :)
simply awesome!
And no, I'm not a musical hater...unless it's as annoying as Hairspray.
I can't believe they waited so long to even conceive a sequel in the first place, and with both Anne Ramsey (Mama Fratelli) & Sloth (John Maszack?) dying within 4yrs after the original, it'd be weird.
Only Josh Brolin (Brand) & Sean Astin (Mikey) had real careers after this, and Corey Feldman's was short lived.
they had no business trying to make a goonies sequal anyway, that was just a terrible idea.
