Director Guillermo Del Toro has spent a career working with monsters, and according to MTV, the director now has plans to tackle another one - Frankenstein's Monster!

Del Toro revealed that he has "always been" interested in directing a new version of Frankenstein, and that he is hard at work doing pre-production. Due to the WGA strike, he is unable to work on a script, but he is currently creating illustrations and images that he hopes to use to create the world of the classic monster and his creator, Victor Frankenstein.

"I started doing some notes before the strike," Del Toro states, "I can only draw now."

Del Toro is known for his work on Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Pan's Labyrinth and Blade 2.

I love Del Toro's work! He should make his version of FRANKENSTEIN really scary. With the right script and actors, he'll accomplish it. And most of all release it during the month of October, close to Halloween. Speaking of Halloween, if he could get the guy who played Michael in Rob Zombie's version of Halloween to play Frankenstein's creation that would be great. That dude was huge.

Here is what it says over at MTV:

In Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" there are two monsters: the creature brought back to life, of course, and the mad scientist who does it, Dr. Frankenstein.

Actually, make that three monsters, the affable Guillermo Del Toro joked. "I will appear shirtless for most of the length of the film," he teased of his upcoming reinterpretation of the classic story. "You will be amazed at my chocolate bar physique!"

Del Toro, who told MTV News that he's "always been" interested in directing a version of "Frankenstein," said he's hard at work in pre-production, crafting drawings which he hopes to use as a basis for the world of the film. "I started doing some notes before the strike," he revealed. "[During the strike] I can only draw now." (Watch Del Toro discuss "Frankenstein" after the jump.)

Known for his adult fairy tales like "Pan's Labyrinth," Del Toro insists he has a "definitive take" on the character.

"The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries," he said. "But I think there are permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way."

Del Toro is a perfect fit for Frankenstein. This should be his "King Kong."

Well hey, that sounds pretty sweet. I hope he ends up using the classic "IT'S ALIVE!!!" line that Dr. Frankenstein yells.
