Wolverine Filming at a New Zealand Ice Rink

The Otago Daily Times reports that Queenstown, New Zealand may be preparing itself for Hollywood fever as filming for Hollywood blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine nears, but one group of Queenstown residents has been left high and, quite literally, dry, with the production studio renting the Queenstown Fun Centre.

The newspaper has learned that the ice was taken off the rink recently and the surface will remain dry possibly until March, as the Fun Centre may be earning as much as $4000 a week for the rental. While it may be an excellent business decision, Queenstown's ice hockey players and management are miffed at the call.

Ice Blacks hockey manager Charlie Reid, of Queenstown, said he was told before Christmas the ice would be taken off for up to three months. There are 10 Queenstown ice hockey players due to head into their final training camp in Auckland at the end of this month, vying for selection in the New Zealand ice hockey team to compete in the division 2 World Championships in Australia in April.

well i feel bad 4 dem. i remember when "snakes on a plane" was being shot in hawaii right where i was surfin and hoggin da waves 4 a quick scene. i still thought it was cool. but maybe these hockey players hate movies. other than that i think this movie will ROCK!

well unfortunately that is life, money is the world and the people are just gonna have to suck it up.. just because they have "patroned" the town their entire life does not mean the town "owes" them something.. and you would be surprised how many towns show support for movies, its hype for their town which would probably never make a news page in ITS entirety, not to mention the money being pumped their way, where else are they supposed to make movies if they dont use already standing establishments? its rather unfortunate with the situation the hockey players are facing but again, that is life

fuck that shit, im sure a compromise could be reached.
these guys dont give a fuck about hugh jackman or comic books, all they know is theyre getting fucked over by a location theyve probably patronized their entire lives.

I have to admit, it must suck for the hockey players that have dreams to make it in the World Champs, but like everyone says, they should be honored to have a big movie production like this in the backyard.

I would be honored to have a movie that will probably be a HUGE success be filmed in my town.. its unfortunate for the players but its not like the town can fight it.. money always wins
