John Woo is about to go back in time for his next project. According to Variety, the director will take on 1949 as his next project. He will begin work on that film right after he completes his current project, Red Cliff.
The film will be based on true events, set after World War II and will deal with the final events of the Chinese Civil War. Chang Chen and Song hye-kyo have signed on to star in the film.
The film is scheduled to start production in December, filming in China and Taiwan. The film's release has been tenatively scheduled for December 2009, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
