It's obvious Avatar should get it but the Visual Effects award is known for some major blunders in the past. Like when Transformers lost to the Golden Compass. XP

And the win is Avatar, Obviously.

My personal list includes Avatar, 2012 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Avatar chances to 90%, 2012 to 60% and 70% chance to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Like the movie itself Avatar was 80% Visual Effects (the whole movie) cause Pandora alone made of 100% VFX, so real, so wonderful, that's why it's my number one pick. Out of my list, I was amazed of District 9's FX also, true, 'prawns' so real even on a bright daylight, but sadly it is not included on my list. (hehe)

I think Avatar will walk away with the award, hands down. Although Transformers had some pretty slick CGI and although it was a terrible film, 2012 had some awesome CGI moments.

Watchmen should've been up for a nomination instead of Transformers. I didn't see Terminator Salvation, Star Trek, Avatar or 2012. District 9 should get the award but Avatar looks pretty sick.

2/7 is 2012 and Avatar. But I think it's Avatar.

I just hope Transformers 2 doesn't disgrace oscar history with a win it doesn't deserve. The special effects were good, but I don't think it deserves a nomination at all.

The thing is Avatar took a huge budget and created a phenomenally immersive world like I'd never seen before. District 9 on the other hand took a very small budget and created realistic creatures within a gritty more realistic world. Both great accomplishments, but both very different.

Though I would love to see District 9 win it, Avatar will.

Agreed Josh. Weta deserves the win either way so I am happy. I mean weather its a 300 mil budget (Avatar) or 30 mil (D9), they are very resourceful and passionate.
