Seven Films in the Running for the 2007 Visual Effects Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that seven films remain in contention for Achievement in Visual Effects for the 80th Academy Awards.

The films are listed below in alphabetical order:

The Bourne Ultimatum
Evan Almighty
The Golden Compass
I Am Legend
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
300
Transformers

On Wednesday, January 16, members of the Academy's Visual Effects Branch will view 15-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, the members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2007 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PT. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

Evan Almighty? are they serious? Bourne was a good action/stunt movie but i really dont see why it should be up there either. My guesses are Pirates or Transformers.

300 SHOULD WIN, ITS CREW DID A MONUMENTAL WORK IN THE SPECIAL EFFECTS FIELD CREATING A VISUAL FANTASY THAT IS GREATER THAN REALITY.

Evan Almighty and the Bourne Ultimatum!? I understand the rest, but those two have me baffled. Where's Spider-Man 3? I think we can all agree that it wasn't the best movie, but the effects were pretty amazing, especially Sandman. Even so, Transformers would still take my vote, with 300 a close second. Those robots were awesome!
