Best Picture goes to "The Hangover" & NOT "(500) Days of Summer" ..... that was wrong!!

"The Hangover " was crappy ...& not even funny! I saw it in theaters and just sat their in sielce..it seemd like a film school project than anything else!!

The thing I kept wondering as I approached the thirty-minute mark was, When does it get funny?

... Jeff Bridges rocked in The Last Picture Show (1971) ..... he was nominated in the categories for Best Actor in a Supporting Role!! He should have won "THAT" year!!

Big surprise was the win by Jeff Bridges for "Crazy Heart" ...I realkly thought George Clooney was going to win!! Congrats Jeff .. 1 damn good actor ...finally got his dues!!

I haven't seen "Crazy Heart" yet ...but I will this weekend ...I hope!!!!

Yeah, I think he knows Moviemaster75, James Cameron. He said something about his ex-wife's (if l'm right) The Hurt Locker director during his speech at Globes and I think he means it.

  5. Moviemaster75

The Hurt Locker should've won best picture for drama. If you hadn't noticed i dont like avatar too much

  6. Cripple

Slysnide, I totally agree on Men who stare at Goats. Where were its nominations? And what about The Road?

Pixar wins every year because they're consistently putting out amazing films. I loved Fantastic Mr. Fox, but Up was better. Hell, Coraline and The Princess and the Frog were better too.
Up, Wall-E, and Ratatouille have been three of the best animated films I've ever seen, and they've rightfully been winning Pixar awards for the past three years. Granted, when Cars 2 comes out, I'll have a hard time saying that deserves any awards if it's equal in quality to the first one.

Now John2347 is making some sense. Thank you! Avatar is overrated and The Hurt Locker should of won. Thank you!

  9. John2347

Avatar shouldn't of won its overrated Hurt Locker was 100 times better.

  10. Randle

That's Great. I'm glad both Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow won awards. As Much as I love Michael Emerson, he had his award Last year haha. Take that Bill Paxton!!!!

Avatar lacked so much it's not even funny. It's like they only gave him the oscar cuz it was his first blockbuster since Titanic. Basterds was more original than that, and Hurt Locker I hear is good, though the subject doesn't intrigue me at all. It's great that Jeff Bridges won though.

Oh yeah, and how was "The Men Who Stare At Goats" not up for best comedy or musical? It was way better than the others in the category. Nine's doing so bad right now that the Weinsteins pulled it from being given a wider release since they'd rather cut their losses now.

  12. The Narrator: The Better Man

Lol, Hangover and Downey winning... surprise indeed. Gordan Levitt had a more break out role than Downey for comedy so he deserved it with Damon as well. Katherine should have won best director for taking on such a grueling and tense task for he first big movie since Point Break. Amazing.

And D9 was nominated for screenplay even when it was mostly improve. Cool. ;)

  13. The Narrator: The Better Man

Hurt Locker should have won best picture. Sorry but it was definitely the years best, NOT Avatar.

Bummer D9 wasn't even nominated. Wish I saw these but was busy last night.

  14. Cripple

Agreed, District 9 should get nominated.

  15. Paolo Sardinas

And as great of a movie as Up was, I think the award should of gone to Fantastic Mr. Fox. Every year Pixar/Disney win the Best Animated award. Its time to change that.

To Insert: I agree about District 9. It was a great film that dealt with more than just Science Fiction. But it has no shot at winning though I would like to see it nominated.

I just hope D9 gets nominated for Best Pic. I know it won't win, but just to see it nominated...

That and Basterds are my two fav of the year.

  18. Paolo Sardinas

When the nominations were announced the screenplay category was split up into two categories. Adapted and Original screenplays. Why did they lump them all together for the award show? Up in the Air is an adapted screenplay. Not and original screenplay. If you ask me Tarantino should have taken home the best ORIGINAL screenplay with Reitman taking home the best ADAPTED screenplay. I don't think lumping them together as one award id really fair considering the fact that there is a difference between the two.

Avatar winning Best Picture was bullsh*t. Even the reception in the room wasn't so jolly and happy. I could see him winning Best Director but Best Picture? Hopefully the Oscars will get it right and give the Best Picture award to either Hurt Locker or Inglourious Basterds. The two best movies of the year.

I don't mind that Cameron won best director, but I think IB should have won Best Picture.

Avatar should not have one, neither should have Cameron. Bigelow and Hurt Locker should have.

  22. Diaigma

Well well. A sci-fi film wins best picture? I'd like to see something besides Avatar get it, but it's still history in the making.

Definately didnt want to see Cameron win for Best Director, I was really rooting for Bigelow to take home the Globe. The same for Best Motion Picture-Drama as well.I thought the Hurt Locker was exceptional film making and I was rooting for them. I was glad to see The Hangover take home Best Comedy. It was one of my favorites of 2009. I wish Inglorious Basterds had taken home more awards. It too was exceptionally good also, Tarantino is very talented in his story telling.

Avatar definitely didn't deserve to win over Inglourious and Up In The Air; I'm guessing it didn't deserve to beat Hurt Locker and Precious too, but I haven't seen them. And while I didn't think the Hangover was great there was pretty slim pickings in the comedy / musical category.

Good to see wins for Michael Giacchino, Up, and Robert Downey Jr.

Oh, and Glee winning best series was awesome. I wish Jane Lynch would have won instead of Sevigny.

This is just the Tip of the Iceberg for Avatar winning awards. Next stop The Oscars

Last night was filled with surprises, eye-openers, and shots out of left field. I went 63% on a point system I created for the occasion (For movies, I don't catch much TV). Lower than perusal, but not entirely a failure. Avatar, James Cameron, Robert Downey Jr., and The Hangover, threw my predictions completely. While, I'm glad that they won (a "ha-ha" from James Cameron, a hilarious speech from Downey, and some recognition for the funniest film of the category), none of the "winners" were truly deserving, and will most likely step away from the Oscars empty handed. Damn, I was a hundred percent positive Kathryn Bigelow had it in the bag. Oh well...

And as Andrewryan mentioned, it is unlikely that Avatar will sweep the Oscars. Take account, based on numerous examples from past years, the Academy doesn't give two-sh*ts what the Globes have to say. The Foreign Press generally honors popularity and critical acclaim, while the Academy recognizes films that match a certain bias profile. Avatar does not fit the bill. I doubt the Oscars will rock their "perfect, little" boat. Neither show seems to award for true entitlement.

But, then again, I was dead certain Avatar and The Hangover would not win. At this point, it's completely debatable, and dare I say, up in the air. I'm excited.

Listen fellas, even if Avatar doesn't sweep all the award ceremonies James Cameron will still be laughing from atop his mountain of cash.

I didn't even know these were on last night lol Ironically, I was watching Inglourious Basterds for the first time, which should have won.

Avatar is good and all, but I hope to hell it doesn't sweep the Oscars. It's not good enough to win Best Picture. It'll def. get nominated, though.
