Will there be a Resident Evil 4?

Source:  Sony Pictures
It was reported back in September that although the third installment in the Resident Evil franchise was still in production, the filmmakers were wasting no time casting the fourth film. At the time Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, Dark Angel, Smallville) was in talks to play Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil: Afterlife (the fourth pic's working title).

However, Sony has provided us with the synopsis for the third RE film, Resident Evil: Extinction, which indicates the next film, may be the last:

The third and final installment of the $100 million RESIDENT EVIL hits, RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION is again based on the wildly popular video game series and picks up where the last film left off. Alice (MILLA JOVOVICH), now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Olivera (ODED FEHR) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke ) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead...and to seek justice. Since being captured by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice has been subjected to biogenic experimentation and becomes genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity. These skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive.

Resident Evil: Extinction arrives in theatres on September 21st, 2007.

Their doing good in the whole movie being different from the game aside from using some charactors. I'm almost thinking they should make a Resident Evil: Extinction Part 2, for the Jill story and to clear up what happened to Angela Ashford because if you never read the book you probobly are thinking "what happened to what's her face, the kid?"

In response to Zeldaboy, did you notice how the world was in ruin's, their was no parisite of doom, and Umbrella didn't go to crap after nuking a city, or did you miss that part?

As to xedgex, I agree, they missed out on ALOT of story that they crammed into the book, but I do think it was a good movie, they should have made it ether like 3 hours, or 2 parted.

The Resident Evil movies are great. they do their best to put some of the game charecters in the films such as Valentine in the second and Albert int he third. It is impossible for any movie to be exactly like a book or game. They have done a great job in all the movies and for sure should make a fourth. Hopefully it wouldn't be the end although four movies would be a lot. but it would be impossible for them to end on the third movie!! We need to know how alaska is .. if Claire survives .. If milo dies or saves the world!! It needs to happen and the name of afterlife is great and the setting I have heard in Toyko sounds like it would be good. and I think Jensen is very cute and would make an amazing leon!!!!

ive been a fan ever since my uncle showed me resident evil 2 for playstation and i think since nearly every movie made after a game sucks and is nowhere even close to the original story, that the resident evil movies should be based on the resident evil book series

totally agree with xedgex about the F@#& up with the rushing of the film and ideas from the game that could have made the movie so good i think i would have killed someone just to see it in the theater (LOL) will never kill

and agree wid singha151 cause the first two movies were like the resident evil games, unlike the third part, they F@#ked up super badly on that movie, were the F@#k was all of that in the games, and the 4th part should take place in SPAIN and NOT in JAPAN!!

im munkyman7 just forgot things, and got out of hand

24 days later and 28 weeks later was waAy more like resident evil,
"redeem RESIDENT EVIL".
RE4 the movie SHOULD BE CREATED!!!
dont have alice be the main character its not scary when shes the one acting because she has some krazy power that could always beat up zombies all day gets retarded after a while.
what happen to the horror or suspense feel when you feel like ur surrounded by death and your trying to survive and not be eatin alive thats what RE IS!!!

That dudes an idiot!!!!! The movie is decent at best(and only because its Resident Evil) and doesn't pick up anywhere near the last one. The gap between 2 and 3 is so huge they could make an entire other movie to fill it. Also, the third installment is super short, and if it truly is the last film, they really screwed it up! Its bad enough that it doesn't pick up where the last one left off, but this one is nowhere near as good as it should and could have been, not to mention the fact that they have wasted so many good story lines and ideas from the games that they could have used to make the movie so much better. It seems to me that they rushed this movie, in the making, the story, and the release. Another Hollywood F@#k up, no surprise!
