In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.
Avatar comes to theaters December 18 from 20th Century Fox.
Avatar was released December 18th, 2009 and stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel Moore, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez, Laz Alonso. The film is directed by James Cameron.

gato No dude, District 9's cg kills this movie. The fact that they are more complex has nothing to do with it. It looked like you could touch those creatures and you could see the detailed texture in them. And this film had 200 million to play with, and this is all it came up with. So the scale of the effects and production should be way better.

you all have to take into consideration that the aliens in district 9 are less humanlike, therefore less complex to animate and create the illusion of believable characters , for me this movie is a great achievement.. and we can all see the beginning of a new era of digital entertaiment...just considering the verosimilitude of the cg characters,,.. we have to take into account the scale of the effects(worlds,species,aliens,spaceships,battles..etc) and production of this movie...truly a revolutionary work (just by looking at this trailer)...and in Imax 3d...

Yes Bros, the Na'vi, I guess the blue creatures you're talking about, looked a bit cartoony, but the emotion came through great. Did you see the female Na'vi crying? Looked pretty real to me.
It's funny, everybody yells that they want something new, and when they get it, there are still complaints. Geeeez people. Come on. It's something new.
And District 9 does look phenomenal. Can't wait to see that.

I was said somewhere that the film is still in rendering. Some scenes in the trailer were not fully rendered yet.
However, I can't but think "Halo" at some parts of this.

District 9's aliens were very well done, was the Avatar trailer a mind blowing experience? NO it wasnt, but i thought it looked pretty solid with the lack of storyline, I'm sure this trailer was to get us teased by the look of it all, this movie will not be Rated R thats just retarded, maybe PG13 if there is any sex scenes, other than that, not much difference then any other sci fi, fantasy/action/adventure

What trailer were you watching again? The trailer that I saw did not look photo realistic at all. It looked like the sequel to the Final Fantasy movie. I thought it was the cut scene to a video game lol. I'm not saying the film will be bad because it looks like a fun action adventure movie, but nothing revolutionary like he was hyping it up to be. Im mean come on District 9 made with a $30 million dollar budget looks more real than this and it was made with a $350 million dollar budget lol

Just seen the trailer too. I admit that visually it looks very impressive, but the actual film didnt grab me like I hoped. Looks like a mixture of 10,000 BC, The Time Machine and Star Wars: Clone Wars.

On the web page it saids,
"Parents of young children may wish to exercise discretion"
... Does this mean it's headed for an R rating?
It's not unlike Cameron to make another R film, but considering that he spent 300 million on this, he'd better make it PG-13 so he can sell as many tickets as possible. If it's rated R, I won't take my son with me. One less ticket. See what I mean?
