Lorenzo Di Bonaventura Gives Up Secrets About G.I. Joe

There's been a lot of speculation about what fans can expect to see in G.I. Joe - how close will it be to the comics or cartoon? Which of our favorites will we see? And more. Well, in a recent interview with Collider, the film's producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, revealed some of what we can expect in the film.

To begin, he answered the question of how well they're going to present the characters:

Well, it's a hard question to answer. We think we're going to deliver on all the characters. We think the script actually delivers really well and sets up each character. You're going to understand the back-stories of virtually every major character and then you're going to understand the roles of the ones you don't. You may not know everything you know if you've read the comic book but you're going to recognize them if you've read the comic book and you're certainly going to want to know more about them by the end of it which is part of the tease. And there's some character info that will be new to the comic fans.

Bonaventura also addressed some issues about the film's tone and what rating they're aiming for. First he said that the film is going to be rated PG-13, and that he thinks comparing the "bloodless violence" to that found in Spider-Man is a fair comparison.

The issue of the character's costumes was also addressed. The initially released photos of the cast in black body armor will not be the only look for the characters. "I would say each character has more than one outfit, by in large, other than of course Snake Eyes, but everybody else has multiple looks. So, yeah, they're always in costume but there are multiple looks," Bonaventura said. He added "Well, I think our costume designer's phenomenal and she's just done a great job in delivering a very varied look. You know, Snake Eyes is a character in black so he would be in black and you know we looked through all the comic books and The Baroness and unless we're missing something she's always in black. Every character in the movie is not in black all the way through including - other than Snake Eyes - who has to be in black all the way through. So, you know, there's multiple looks that for each of those characters that you'll see them in different color schemes and in different attitudes I'd say."

To read the full interview, where Bonaventura also reveals what it's like to be a producer

G.I. Joe is currently filming and is scheduled for an August 7, 2009 release. The film stars Ray Parks, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Said Taghmaoui, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Marlon Wayans, Channing Tatum, Dennis Quiad, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo, Karolina Isela Kurkov, Byung Hun Lee and Christopher Eccleston.

im not into it. never was a huge fan and now they are taking a turn for the worst. its not gonna be good, we all kno that already. im not trying to knock your opinions but behind that false mask you guys call a "positive outlook", there is a young boy crying and ripping off heads of barbie dolls, and its all because of the lack of...well, EVERYTHING this movie does NOT incorporate. guns, swords, fights, wars and NO blood? ha! think about it and get back to me

hey space 101 I agree with you about the costumes also on the bloodless....
But I am still concern about Snake Eyes... I feel that his pants throws him off.. sure it looks great in the comic books... and I like the upper body part, but something in the back of my mind feels he would look better in the commando sweater and goggles.. I'm wondering on other peoples ideas on this.. until then keep posting.

Ok now this has got me really pumped for the movie! I was a bit concerned about the costumes, but if they say that they will be changing frequently, then it's all good! Nowing the background of the characters too is a good way to introduce GI Joe to new and younger fans out there.

Now for the bloodless violence? I'm not to up for that. They should atleas put some blodd scenes in the movie. Were still talking about a battle and war that has been going on for years now and yes the violence is still there...so why not add some blood to the movie? Either way, this is gonna turn out great!
