Gore Verbinski on the Future of Pirates of the Caribbean

Today I participated in a "virtual junket" with director Gore Verbinski for the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on DVD. The filmmaker offered this up, regarding potential future Pirates movies.

Are you planning on doing a 4th part?

Gore Verbinski: I think the trilogy is now complete. All of the stories set in motion by the first film have been resolved. If there ever were another Pirates of the Caribbean film, I would start fresh and focus on the further adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Look for more from this Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End very soon.

COTBP was meant to be a stand alone movie. But instead it opened up one of the most exciting set of movies ever! Johnny Depp was brilliant as Jack, along with a fantastic crew, talented actors and actresses, and then some.

The trilogy ended several unanswered stories and I am sure that new characters will embark on the adventure with Jack Sparrow.

Thanks for the blip from Gore. IF they make more I agree that Gore should do what he wants; focus on the further adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and revisit nothing from the first three as far as continuation. Will Turner is a great hero and someone a guy can look up to, and Jack is Jack. COTBP was awesome; DMC was great for action and introducing new characters but the "love triange" stuff was just BORING and OLD and made Jack disappointing and stupid; AWE was kick-ass and thank god Captain Jack TRULY came back. If there is never more, then I consider myself lucky to have had the experience. They done good.

As much as I love the Pirates films I do think 3 is enough. There is such a thing as too much, you don't want to ruin what's already there. Even Hans Zimmer said he was done with scoring Pirate movies after spending 4 years of his life on the trilogy. The crew/cast should be happy with what they did and move on to other things.

I'd love to see a jack sparrow only movie.I thought the first was awesome but the sequels weren't that good.To me it seemed forced. Most sequels to be good have to have a fresh outlook in my opinion.Something totally different with the same feel.

i dissagree, i loved the third much more than the second but not as much as the first.
As for Gore, he said that all the stories set forth by the FIRST film were resolved but Jack's storyline was left as an open book. I can't decide if i like it more or less this way until i see the 4th (if there is one)
