COMIC-CON 2007: Read Our Lionsgate Panel Round Up!

Today at Comic-Con we had the pleasure of attending the Lionsgate panel where they proceeded to show us clips and brought out talent for a host of movies that they've got in the pipeline. The films we saw sneak peeks of today were Good Luck Chuck, 3:10 to Yuma, the carnivorous Midnight Meat Train and of course the fourth installment in the Saw franchise.

Starting out the festivities was Good Luck Chuck and on hand to talk about the film were its stars Dane Cook and the lovely Jessica Alba. Apparently, this was Cook's first time ever attending the Con and he saw fit to don an old school Metallica t-shirt. They talked about the plot of Good Luck Chuck which, in a nutshell, is about a guy who is a sexual good luck charm for women. He sleeps with them and then they meet the person they are destined to marry.

After this we were treated to a clip of the film:

In this clip of Good Luck Chuck, Charlie (Cook) is on the phone with Cam (Jessica Alba). She begins to beg him for phone sex and he is game, until he realizes what she is really trying to do to him. If Charlie really is a good luck charm she will end up being with someone else. Once Charlie comes to this realization he drops his phone into the bathtub.

After this, Cook and Alba fielded some questions where they talked about other projects. Alba discussed The Eye and how she had to learn to play the violin for the role. Cook was asked about future projects and he declared that he'd love to "do a superhero movie." After this, Cook had some fun with Alba showing off her shoes to the rapt audience and he even remarked that they looked like something C3P0 would wear.

Next up was a look at the highly anticipated western 3:10 to Yuma. Lionsgate trotted out Ben Foster and Peter Fonda who appear in the film. This is an old west tale of the highest order about the infamous outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) and his vicious gang of thieves and murderers that plagued the Southern Railroad. When Wade is captured, Civil War veteran Dan Evans (Christian Bale), struggling to survive on his drought-plagued ranch, volunteers to deliver him alive to the "3:10 to Yuma", a train that will take the killer to trial. On the trail, Evans and Wade, each from very different worlds, begin to earn each other's respect. But with Wade's outfit on their trail - and dangers at every turn - the mission soon becomes a violent, impossible journey toward each man's destiny.

We start with a clip in which Charlie (Ben Foster) talks to some prisoners to get some information on the 3:10 to Yuma train. There isn't much shown here but after it ends, Foster talks about being very adept at firearms after doing this film. He also proudly states that there is not one drop of CGI anywhere in this movie. Considering the lengths studios go to cut costs and get the most bang for their buck, this is actually a pretty bold statement. In addition to this, Foster remarked that Russell Crowe made the cast go to "cowboy camp" so that they could up their game when working with horses and guns.

The next clip that was played for us featured a lot more action with Crowe and Foster chasing after a stage coach. The scene moved at a very brisk pace and one could hear a pin drop in the auditorium as the audience watched this purely visceral action scene. CGI is one thing but seeing a stunt really being done is a whole other ballgame. After this, Fonda and Foster continued to chat with the Comic-Con audience. Fonda even tried to test his cred by making a reference to Ghost Rider, but it didn't seem like the audience really cared about that. Before their panel was up, the actors informed us that the shooting conditions were so cold when they did their gun battle scenes, they had to warm their hands with hand warmers for a good 20 minutes before each scene.

We will have more coverage from the Lionsgate panel up shortly...
