According to Blu-ray.com, 3D Blu-ray is a lot closer than we think. Deputy senior general manager of Sony Corporation's home entertainment group Yoshinami Takashi announced that the specifications needed to achieve theatrical quality 3D in the home will be adopted before the end of 2009, with most movie studios close to an agreement on the final format for 3D Blu-ray. This means that 3D capable discs and players will be hitting the market in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Consumers that purchase new 3D Blu-ray equipment will also have to buy compatible displays and the new, standard 3D glasses that are being created in conjunction with the new machines as well. There haven't been any announcements as too which films we will see in 3D Blu-ray just yet, but we can expect a lot of animation shorts and documentaries simply do to the fact that a lot of viewers suffer from headaches and nausea while watching feature length films in 3D on home displays.

Major announcements concerning 3D Blu-ray are expected by the end of the year. We will keep you updated as this story progresses.

Yeah. I was looking into getting a Bluray player soon. Now it looks like I'll have to wait longer before I fork out the cash. Maybe I'll just get a regular Bluray player. I can wait to buy the #D movies until later on down the road. I'm jonesin' the watch my Dark Knight and Star Trek Bluray movies. Can't wait any longer. Like you say, the curve is always moving. When will we finally reach what we're reaching for?!
