What was once slated to be another Weinstein and Co. production, Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show has shot its way out of that stable finding refuge in another, more comfortable barn. Word from Variety is that Picturehouse and New Line Cinema have acquired rights to distribute the comedy concert film worldwide.
You may have seen ads for Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show in your local weekly entertainment paper. The live show featured four untested comedians on a whirlwind 30-day, 30-city tour. Hand-picked by Vaughn, the comics were filmed throughout the process, giving us a pseudo-documentary in much the same vein as Dave Chappelle's Block Party. Vaughn is the producer of both the live show and the film based on it.
Though Picturehouse's Bob Berney bid on Vaughn's Comedy Show at last fall's Toronto Film Festival, it was The Weinstein Co. who originally purchased rights to the film for a little less than $3 million dollars. Since then, they haven't said more than a peep about their acquisition.
Vaughn is glad the film has finally landed at New Line, stating:"From the beginning Bob Berney has shared our vision for the film. It is also great to be back as part of the New Line family after the tremendous success of Wedding Crashers."
Though terms of this new deal were not disclosed, you can expect to see the film in American Cinemas sometime around early 2008.
