Actor Rodrigo Santoro is set to return as Xerxes, his villainous character from 300, in the follow-up 300: Battle of Artemisia.

The move shouldn't come as too big a surprise, since the project was once titled Xerxes. We reported back in December that Eva Green will play Artemisia, a wicked goddess who persuades Xerxes to lead his enormous army into battle against the Spartans. Sullivan Stapleton and Jamie Blackley also star.

Noam Murro is directing 300: Battle of Artemisia from a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad and 300 director Zack Snyder. Production is slated to begin this summer, although a release date has not been announced.

300: Rise of an Empire was released March 7th, 2014 and stars Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, Callan Mulvey, David Wenham, Rodrigo Santoro, Jack O'Connell. The film is directed by Noam Murro.
