24 Shuts Down Production

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that 24 is shutting down production in order to retool its highly anticipated upcoming seventh season. Producers said they simply weren't happy with the direction the show was taking.

The show will shut down after episode 18 is completed on September 15th. Writers plan to reshape the outcome of this particular run, with their main focus on changing the season's finale. Executive producer Howard Gordon told Entertainment Weekly, "We had a couple of scripts that we weren't happy with. We just couldn't get this direction to work, and we found another one that we liked better, so we wound up retooling it."

According to Gordon, the season will not be interrupted, with writers getting back to work in early October. The seventh season premiere will debut in January of 2009.

This may not be so bad. Last season started off very strong but gradually drag along and bombed altogether as a season. A lot of people made their opinions like that clear and producers may have taken notice. Hopefully this is all for the show's own good, but 24 has always been a cult classic and personal favorite of mine, so we'll just wait and see when January comes around.
