2012 Writers Guild Awards Nominations
Categories for film include Best Original Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Documentary Screenplay. The TV nominations are a little more extensive, offering awards for Best Drama Series, Best Comedy Series, Best New Series, Best Episodic Drama, Best Animated Series, Best Comedy/Variety Series, and Best Daytime Drama.

Feature films eligible for a Writers Guild Award were exhibited theatrically for at least one week in Los Angeles during 2011 and were written under the WGA's Minimum Basic Agreement (MBA) or under a bona fide collective bargaining agreement of the Australian Writers Guild, Writers Guild of Canada, Writers Guild of Great Britain, Irish Playwrights & Screenwriters Guild or the New Zealand Writers Guild. Theatrical screenplays produced under the jurisdiction of the WGA or an affiliate Guild must have been submitted for WGA awards consideration.
Documentaries eligible for a Writers Guild Award featured an onscreen writing credit and were exhibited theatrically in Los Angeles or New York for one week during 2011. Credited documentary writers were required to join the WGAW's Nonfiction Writers Caucus or the WGAE's Nonfiction Writers Caucus to be considered, but scripts need not have been written under WGA jurisdiction for consideration.

@moviegeek: I know. Poor wording on my part. I meant, that the nomination for Moneyball would be his recognition for two good movies, like a pat on the back. That way they could leave the slate open for other deserving screenplays. The Oscars do it all the time. And I agree. I didn't love Win, Win--granted I saw it on an airplane next to a baby. The Help, in my opinion, while good, is this year's Blind Side. I support Young Adult. I thought the script was the strongest aspect of the movie, with Charlize and Patton brining it to life, of course.

In all honesty, as far as the films go, it's a pretty sorry list. I mean... The Help? Bridesmaids? Win Win? Young Adult?
There are standouts of course, but I really expected to see The Artist or Tinker Tailor to be on the list.
@zanyzap Moneyball is on there. But I share your surprise with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, especially since the Swedish films weren't even considered.
