Interesting to see if The Hunger Games or Harry Potter will win best movie, though.

the Narrator
@ejk1 - A few things, really...
The emotions displayed by the characters in the film seemed too glossy for my tastes. As opposed to urgent and apprehensive, I for the most part got this vibe of acceptance (understandable to an extent) and even indifference (the latter of which I felt they didn't intend to portray) from the overall picture; emotions which were far less raw and authentic than I'd usually expect from a film with this type of subject matter. Whenever Lawrence did shine (and she had her moments), it was great, but one can't rely on her to carry a film of this type, and ultimately felt much of the tension, adrenaline, and overall anxiety in the film was too forced to but into. That reflects either the casting, the presentation, or both.
I haven't read the books myself, but all of my friends have, and from what they've told me about the material the casting seemed rather off for certain characters, and I was stupefied by how down-right pretty practically ever character was, contestant or otherwise. Furthermore, I didn't walk away from the theaters feeling anything substantial; liberation, affronted (with that damn ending, I'd expect to be), relieved, etc. Nothing at all.
The film felt like a subtle early-year blockbuster at the end of the day. That's not to say the film was bad, I just was disappointed in it with how many people praised it for reasons I mostly had to disagree with. Admittedly, I was hesitant to even pay the film any mind, no doubt, but I did get my hopes up before entering the feature. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5, because the overall picture was entertaining, and key scenes helped to liven the experience, but I don't know... just not what I expected in the least.

Like @ejk1 said it's all a "popularity show" and which demographic does MTV bring in the most? Teenage girls ages between 14-22 which just so happens to be Twihards. I'm still baffled that Twilight won over The Dark Knight. Every year after that, Twilight won. I was happy to know Deathly Hallows Part I took honors for "best picture" let's hope Part II wins that honor this time.

@narrator didn't like The Hunger Games? Is it because it didn't follow the book enough, or some other reason?

...soooo. Hunger Games was pretty disappointing. I hope Deathly Hallows gets it's due over the other pathetic nominations.

@cupid Don't say "my bad" to @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx It's his own fault.
@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Nothing I said was obvious, but rather just in fun and you either A) didn't get it, or B) need to learn emoticons, otherwise you just look like a humorless schmuck. Don't know which it is, don't care either.

@dan1 They'll be close. Last year Twilight was taking it all!! Made that show bad and predictable. So I guess I'll watch this since Twi and HG are going head to head!!! C'mon Hunger Games you got this!!

So many choices I don't know what to pick. "The Hunger Games" or "HP7 (Part 2)" for the most part. I still haven't seen "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" either, so I can't tell about Rooney Mara's performance yet.

@ejk1 Lol. I just think it's hilarious all the way around. The fact that it's nominated, the films it's nominated with, the fact that it'll win coupled with the things you pointed out, and mostly because of the fact that it won't be nominated for anything else all year, lol. It's just funny to me.

I like how @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx and @thedude-abides are going to suffer because of this "award show." Unlike the others, this one is totally driven by popularity, and has nothing to do with artistic merit. It's going to make me guffaw when the winners are announced, and one of these films of lesser quality will win a "Best Picture" award when films like The Descendants and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo did not, lol :P

@dan1 It might, but Twilight fans are crazy and they've made sure that the Twilight films have won Best Movie the past 3 years. I get the feeling Breaking Dawn wins over Hunger Games, even though we all wanna see HG win.
