2012 Moved Back to November 13th

It seems that Roland Emmerich's new epic won't be a summer movie after all. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony's Columbia Pictures has shifted the release date for 2012 from the summer July 10 to the pre-Thanksgiving November 13 release date.

"We've had such success with the James Bond films in November that we wanted a big tentpole film in that slot this year," Sony distribution president Rory Bruer said Tuesday. "We've got so many films in the summer that this is the perfect answer to that."

The film will now go against two wide-releases in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and the Fox comedy Tooth Fairy starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Sony already has a full summer lined up with such films as the action remake The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, Year One with Jack Black and Michael Cera and Julie & Julia, which stars Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.

2012 was released November 13th, 2009 and stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Thomas McCarthy, Woody Harrelson, Danny Glover. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich.

Yeah Roland's had a few stinkers latley while The Day after Tomorrow is complete bullsh*t it was an entertaining disaster film but 10,000 B.C was just awful. Well hopefully 2012 will bring back the feel of his awesome films like Independance Day, The Patriot, and Star Gate

It will most certainly not flop. The movie will be a hit due to the content of it. Not too mention, they will market it from "The Director of Independence Day & The Day After Tomorrow." The movie will make a lot of money.

By the time 2012 was slated to come out in Mid-July, Terminator Salvation would be at the bottom of or completely absent from the weekend Top 10. Terminator would give 2012 ZERO competition. Doesn't matter anyway, 2012 will flop no matter when they release it.

good move by sony, this movie wouldnt be able to compete with the summer blockbusters like terminator, transformers or harry potter.

well chuchi if the y2k scare was any indication you can bet the morons will be out in full force on december 21 2012 making things a lot worse than they need to be since nothing is going to happen.

The Mayan's believe the world will end 'as we know it' on 12-21-2012, not that the entire earth will be destroyed.

Good idea it will probably make more in Novemeber, rather than in the summer with transformers and other big movies coming out at that time.

im glad they moved it cause its not really a must see movie on my list and it comes out at a perfect time being November for slow movies

From the "trailer" it looked interesting. November is better for them anyway, there's no way they could compete with Transformers and G.I. Joe

Hopefully it surprises my expectations in November...

I'll bet that this also has to do with post production. Just the other day I was thinking about this film and how effects heavy it will be, ESPECIALLY since it is an Emmerich film. I am kind of bummed because I was looking forward to seeing it in July, but I guess I can wait until November. Too bad, it would have made a lot more if released during the summer.

Makes more sense this will crush Tooth Fairy but i think Sherlock Holmes will own November Robert Downey Jr. and Guy Ritchie are a force to be reckoned with. Summer is already looking like a phenominal time for movies but IMO Emmerich has been on a bad streak especially with 10,000 B.C. but he's got some really good films with Independance Day, Stargate, and The Patriot

Well I could care less when 2012 comes out because I hate Emmerich but why the hell is The Rock doing a movie called the Tooth Fairy? He can do better than making another kids movie.
