2008 MTV Movie Award Nominees Announced
"As someone who had his nose rubbed up against a locker or two, it's great to see my cinematic nerd brothers get their just rewards," said Van Toffler, President, MTV Networks Music, Logo and Films Group. "It's our audience that has made these movies huge box office hits and they've clearly spoken by nominating films with strong characters they can all relate to."
Once again, the 2008 MTV Movie Awards roll out the red carpet for another star-studded evening. Celebrities, comedic moments, and special appearances will be among the many surprises during the live show. Additionally, MTV unveils another new category, "BEST SUMMER MOVIE SO FAR" giving a nod to most recent summer blockbusters.
The destiny of the coveted golden popcorn lies in the hands of the viewers. Fans can vote by visiting MovieAwards.MTV.com before May 23rd to support their favorite nominees in each category. Fans can also go online to vote for the user-generated category, "BEST MOVIE SPOOF" where viewers have the opportunity to submit their own original movie shorts parodying films from the past year.
As previously announced, MTV has partnered with some of the most popular UGC video sites, including Photobucket, MySpace, Daily Motion, Break, Buzznet, Heavy and FunnyorDie to give anyone and everyone with a creative vision their chance to shine in a celeb-filled arena. Finalists for the "BEST MOVIE SPOOF" will be flown to Los Angeles to attend the 2008 MTV Movie Awards where one will be crowned the winner.
The 2008 MTV Movie Awards will be available to a potential viewing audience of more than 1.4 billion people via MTV's global network of 64 channels reaching 559.8 million households around the world as well as through syndication. Maybe it's hard to read my psot cos I'm not so good with english writing, but my point was that :
MTV Movie awards are like a music TOP - just avarage movie goers voting their personal favourites without any critical opinion. Just call it a movie version of POP music

reread what you just put and try and defend how it is NOT pointless again
exactly

I don't think these awards are pointless becouse this is what mass public thinks about having a good time, it's what people go see just for fun, without having to dig into the movie. Don't forget that all of these nominations are basically teen voted. DO NOT compare MTV Movie Awards with Academy Awards. Respect other people too becouse they make actor's bill. :)

WTF, they should call these the June2007-April 2008 MTV awards. Weak nominations for a pointless award.

why this year the don't have the award for "Best Summer Movie You Haven't Seen Yet"? this is so stupid and i would prefer Bonecrusher vs. Optimus Prime in Best Fight instead rush hour 3.

BEST MALE PERFORMANCE: Matt Damon
BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE: Katherine Heigl
BEST VILLAIN: Javier Bardem
BEST COMEDIC PERFORMANCE: Amy Adams
BEST FIGHT: Matt Damon vs. Joey Ansah
Ohhh I give-up on this...!!
The rest of the catagories, whoopie!! 1/2 the films were forgettable & savaged by critics & some even got Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst films of 2007!
If I remeber Adam Sandler and (The walking Casting Couch) Jessica Biel both received Golden Raspberry nods for: Worst Picture for "I NOW PRONOUNCE". It was also pronounced a contender for Worst Actor (Adam Sandler) Worst Supporting Actor (Kevin James) Worst Supporting Actress (Jessica Biel) and Worst Screen Couple (Sandler and EITHER James OR Biel)...ROFL!!
Some of these films bombed...I guess never underestimate the teenager! Best Fight.."Never Back Down" & "Jumper" got nominated...LOL..both of these films sucked..and bombed...they only lasted in theaters less than 2 weeks, 3 at the most! & how does "Hairspray" keep getting listed? This was 1 of the "Worst" films of 2007! It was a turd of a film! Some of the worst acting, singing and dacing ever to be put on screen!
No wonder I never watch the MTV Movie Awards! This is 1 award show never to take seriously.! It's forgotton a day after it's over with!

in my opinion, i dont think Sweeney Todd a.k.a. Johnny Depp should even be included in the villain category. He wasnt really the villain in the movie.
I do agree with marcus on Best movie, best actor, and comedic performance.
