Well editboy, i guess that the fans, hold it up to be something of greatness, fans always raise their expectations too high.
I'm not a trekkie, but i enjoyed this film, because i had no expectations to it, before i saw the trailer...honestly i was like Star Trek...yawn...boring.
I watch a few episodes, when my uncle watched them on Sci-Fi, his a proper trekkie, he has like a model of the enterprise.
The film kept some themes of the theoritical film theory of Star Trek which is exploration, but this one also focuses as a origin story for the crew of the enterprise, which was pretty good.

There is even rumours that JJ is set to produce a new series of it for Sky 1.

The next films i'm anticipating now are T4 and Transformers 2 and also Public Enemies for mainstream films, but independence wise i'd say Fifty Dead Men Walking and 7/7

If by some remote chance this movie doesn't suck, I'll be the first one to admit it...but don't hold your breath.

A number of the fan reviewers coming out of these advanced screenings have stated they are non Trek fans. Some of these people have also mentioned that this compares to the "Star Wars" prequels in it's greatness. That says a lot right there. A lot.

I'm still looking forward to "Terminator Salvation" and "Wolverine" a hell of a lot more than this.

I kind of laugh when I read some of the advance publicity that says The Enterprise is the most powerful war machine there is. War? Star Trek is not about war! But then again I guess seeking out new life and new civilizations doesn't make good bank at the box office these days.

The new movie will just mess with the icon way too much. Imagine "Watchmen" where they through out most of the heart and soul of the graphic novel and instead have Silk Spectre moonlight as a prostitute, Nite Owl push drugs, and Dr. Manhattan battle a bevy of outer space monsters while high fiving Rorschach. Do you see what I mean now?

From what I've seen, the new "Star Trek" can best be summed up this way: Let's blow a lot of sh*t up while Kirk and Spock high five one another.

This film is f*cking amazing, i just came back from a special UK preview Primere screening, for BBC News...

Holy Sh*t, i loved this the effects, action, drama, characters were amazing, best film of the year so far...

Terminator 4, Wolverine, Dragonball...Eat your hearts out...

The only challenge this has is possibly Transformers 2...

Best film of the year, so far without a warpspeed of a doubt...

If you want to see Karl Urban at his best there's an amazing New Zealand film called 'Out of the Blue' about a true life massacre back in the 80's. He plays a small town cop envolved in the shootings that happened. It's a bone chilling role and wonderfully played by him.

And he looks and sounds just like Bones! Awesome!
