Noah Oppenheim will adapt 1984 for Imagine Entertainment
We reported back in March that Imagine acquired the rights to the novel, which follows Winston Smith, a man who works at the Ministry of Truth, literally rewriting history as it unfolds. He tries to rebel against this totalitarian society, and the all-seeing Big Brother, by falling in love, which is strictly forbidden.
Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Julie Yorn are producing for Imagine Entertainment, although a director has not been attached yet. The novel was adapted, fittingly, back in 1984 with Nineteen Eighty-Four, which starred John Hurt as the protagonist Winston Smith.
No production schedule was given for this new adaptation.

This is one of those classics that will probably continue being remade well into the future in the vein of Robbin Hood or Les Miserables. Always loved the book and yes @brandon-scott-todd George Orwell was very perceptive wasnt he?

This is great news...in the current zeitgeist if you truly analyze our society, we are the big brother society Orwell predicted...its a sad truth but its the truth nonetheless, accept or don't but big brother is watching either way...

@TheNarrator, 1984 is an incredible novel, give it a read if you get the chance.

the Narrator
This guy is unproven based off of his IMDB, yet he has been given the go-ahead to write four rather intriguing and possibly successful films... he must give a hell of a pitch to the producers/studio.
@cripple, I take it you know if the story's any good?

It's my dream to have Christopher Nolan direct an adaptation of this.
