David Fincher to Create New Heavy Metal

Paramount Pictures has signed on to create an animated film inspired by the 1970s sci-fi fantasy magazine "Heavy Metal", with director David Fincher on board.

According to Variety, Heavy Metal will be stamped by the erotic and violent storylines and images that remain the trademark of a magazine that debuted in the U.S. in 1977. The magazine introduced the works of American artists and writers such as Robert Silverberg, Harlan Ellison and H.R. Giger.

The film will consist of eight or nine individual animated segments, each of which will have a different director.

Fincher will direct one of the segments; Kevin Eastman, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator who is now owner and publisher of "Heavy Metal", will direct another. So will Tim Miller, whose Blur Studios will handle the animation for what is being conceived as an R-rated, adult-themed feature.

As much as i'm excited about this, i hope it won't overshadow the cult popularity of the original film. from Den, to Cpt. Sterling, the lok'nar, and a classic soundtrack.

Still kevin eastman working on the film scares me, he was hugely responsible for 'The Melting Pot' and Heavy Metal 2000... "Oh julie, you're such a great B-Grade movie actress, if i do a comic of your semi-nude body and put you into a terrible part cgi animated feature will ya marry me" Bah!

Okay, so segments... Skydoll (bunny-sexxxed-androids... nuff said), Darkwatch (Come-on, i'll be pissed off without it)... And soundtrack? Lets stick with some DECENT tunes that reflect the original films.... not the out of place metal tracks which were played to push the film out much more in the 2000 crap. That film was really 30 minutes long without the soundtrack. That's like 2-3 youtube uploads. You've been warned Eastman, don't screw it up.

I'm glad that they are doing it in segments like the original and not like that Heavy Metal 2000 shit.
