14 Animated Features Compete for Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have released the names of fourteen features have been submitted for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category for the 81st Academy Awards®.

The 14 submitted features are:

Delgo
Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who
Dragon Hunters
Fly Me to the Moon
Igor
Kung Fu Panda
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
$9.99
The Sky Crawlers
Sword of the Stranger
The Tale of Despereaux
WALL-E
Waltz with Bashir

Bolt, Delgo, Dragon Hunters, $9.99, The Sky Crawlers, The Tale of Despereaux and Waltz with Bashir have not yet had their required Los Angeles qualifying run. Submitted features must fulfill the theatrical release requirements and meet all of the category's other qualifying rules before they can advance in the voting process.

Under the rules for this category, a maximum of 3 films can be nominated in a year in which the field of eligible entries numbers at least 8 but fewer than 16.

Films submitted in the Animated Feature Film category also may qualify for Academy Awards in other categories, including Best Picture, provided they meet the requirements for those categories.

The 81st Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 22, 2009, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2008 will be presented on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

Bolt was released November 21st, 2008 and stars John Travolta, Miley Cyrus, Susie Essman, Mark Walton, Malcolm McDowell, James Lipton, Greg Germann, Diedrich Bader. The film is directed by Byron Howard, Chris Williams.

Delgo was released December 12th, 2008 and stars Freddie Prinze Jr., Chris Kattan, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Anne Bancroft, Val Kilmer, Malcolm McDowell, Michael Clarke Duncan, Louis Gossett Jr.. The film is directed by Marc F. Adler, Jason Maurer.

Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who was released March 14th, 2008 and stars Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen, Dan Fogler, Isla Fisher, Jonah Hill. The film is directed by Jimmy Hayward, Steve Martino.

Fly Me to the Moon was released August 15th, 2008 and stars Tim Curry, Robert Patrick, Kelly Ripa, Buzz Aldrin, Trevor Gagnon, Philip Bolden, Nicollette Sheridan, Ed Begley Jr.. The film is directed by Ben Stassen.

Igor was released September 19th, 2008 and stars John Cusack, Myleene Klass, Robin Walsh, Matt McKenna, John Cleese, Steve Buscemi, Sean Hayes, Jess Harnell. The film is directed by Anthony Leondis.

Kung Fu Panda was released June 6th, 2008 and stars Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross. The film is directed by Mark Osborne, John Stevenson.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa was released November 7th, 2008 and stars Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cedric the Entertainer, Andy Richter, Bernie Mac. The film is directed by Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath.

The Tale of Despereaux was released December 19th, 2008 and stars Matthew Broderick, Dustin Hoffman, Emma Watson, Tracey Ullman, Kevin Kline, William H. Macy, Stanley Tucci, CiarĂ¡n Hinds. The film is directed by Sam Fell, Robert Stevenhagen.

WALL-E was released June 27th, 2008 and stars Ben Burtt, Elissa Knight, Jeff Garlin, Fred Willard, MacInTalk, John Ratzenberger, Kathy Najimy, Sigourney Weaver. The film is directed by Andrew Stanton.

Waltz with Bashir was released December 26th, 2008 and stars Ron Ben-Yishai, Ronny Dayag, Ari Folman, Dror Harazi, Yehezkel Lazarov, Mickey Leon, Ori Sivan, Zahava Solomon. The film is directed by Ari Folman.
