During an interview with The Kingdom director Peter Berg, he confirmed to
MTV the rumor that he will direct Dune. Berg said "if it weren't for the writer's strike, we'd be in it right now."

Berg says while there's no script yet they have a list they plan to go out to once the strike settles. Berg called himself "a huge fan of the book" and when asked about the scale of the film, he simply replied, "big big big."

Berg also confirmed that even before Dune, he's likely to direct Tom Cruise in Edwin A. Salt, which he commented that ed the action-thriller script about a CIA agent on the run after being accused of being a spy "great" and "a great role for Tom."

Am still curious to see it lol...having seen the remakes, i still think Berg has something he can add to Dune that could potentially surprise the audience. Let's give him the benefit of a doubt.

When asked about "remaking" a film made by the illustrious David Lynch, the director was more than diplomatic: "Berg said that while he's "a big fan of Lynch," he believes "that interpretation has left the door wide open for a remake."

I think a new Dune could be kickin, though the Sci-Fi TV series was awesome! As was the old movie, with Patrick Stewart. And granted Hollwood loves to remake stuff these days but hey Dunerocked, so why not!

LOL @ cerealkiller Lp!! How I'm I being "Negative"??
LOL! I'm sorry I'm not jumping up & down W./ultra Excitment that "Dune" is being "Remade" or "Reimagend"!
I just don't understand why David Lynch is not going back like Ridley did for "Blade Runner" & Re-cutting, adding new scenes or what ever it takes to make the film his, then putting it back on the big screen has his film?? (Yes I know Upon its release, director David Lynch distanced himself from the project, stating that pressure from both producers and financiers restrained his artistic control and denied him final cut.)
I'm "NO" knocking Peter Berg (I thought "The Kingdom" was a damn good film, & very under-rated)I love Peter Berg's film: "Very Bad Things".
I just think after so many different cuts of the film both for TV & DVD/VHS, & then the SCI-FI Channel making several "Dune" movies, it's something that dosen't need to be recovered! Is that so bad!?!
Have you yourself "cerealkiller Lp" ever seen "DUNE"?? Any of the movie versions? Or the SCI-FI Channel movies? Have you ever read the book? I'm guessing not!

Was David Lynch's freaky, bizarre and nearly incomprehensible 1984 film Dune really all that bad?

Look at what is so freakin' good about David Lynch's film. Let's try to figure out why it's still a late-night favorite, why geeks quote it all the time -- and why, incidentally, Frank Herbert himself liked David Lynch's film so much.

One reason that mabey Frank Herbert liked David Lynch's "Dune" is by all the marquee names involved?
And what a cast. Francesca Annis, Leonardo Cimino, José Ferrer, Linda Hunt, Kyle MacLachlan, Virginia Madsen, Sting, Sean Young & Patrick Stewart to name a few of the stars!
Or mabey because of production designer Anthony Masters (2001) and costume designer Bob Ringwood (Batman, Excalibur, A.I.) fully realized a world alien enough to be 8,000 years in our future.

Who is being negative! I'm being honest! "Dune" has been made and re-made both for the big screen and Tv!!! Hey cool, take an idea that has been done & then re-do it!! That is so orginial!
