If you've ever wanted to work in some capacity of a feature film, then here is your big chance. After Dark Films has announced that it's teaming up with the new site Massify.com to create the first feature film that is completely developed by an Internet community. The film will also be released in After Dark Films' 8 Films to Die For in 2008.
Massify.com users will vote on everything along the way, picking one filmmaker to produce this film, which they have dubbed Ghosts in the Machine. They will also pick four actors to star in this film. Users also vote on the script ideas, which is the first phase, and then they move into casting, where users vote on audition videos submitted into the site. When the movie does go into production, the process will be filmed and aired like a reality TV show on the Massify.com site.
Community members can also contribute in many other aspects as well, such as creating poster artwork, songs, or even marketing campaigns. The site will also be providing regular updates on the film in production.
"The 'Ghosts in the Machine' contest will offer fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring the next generation of horror film to the screen," stated After Dark Films CEO Courtney Solomon. "We are confident that in the minds of passionate fans and young filmmakers, the next great horror idea is being dreamt up right now, and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to turn one inspired idea into a feature horror film in a way that has never been done before."
