10 Movies You Must Check Out at Comic-Con 2013!

Take a look at the most exciting events lined up for genre fans as SDCC gets underway in San Diego starting Wednesday night, July 17th!
It is that time of year again!

Yes, those wonderful four days in San Diego, California when all manner of fans put on their best Darth Vader, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Katniss Everdeen (and whatever else pop culture has to offer) costumes and descend on the city by the sea like wolves to a slab of bloody meat. In these four wonderful days, actors from movies big and small, from tentpole to teepee, will grace the stages of places with names like Hall H, Ballroom 20 and Room 6A, to pitch their wares and tell you why you should spend your hard earned money to see their movie, buy their toys, and indulge the hype when their product hits the screen.

As always, Comic-Con is filled with just about everything. Gone are the days when this place was simply filling a niche for fanboys and fangirls. There's toys, comics, books, software, food and just about everything in between to satisfy one's taste regardless of if they are there for Godzilla, RoboCop, The Hunger Games or anything in between.

It is because of this ocular bottleneck that we have decided to simplify the experience for you. You wouldn't enter a battle zone without first equipping yourself with the most up to date weapons, nor should you wade through the treacherous waters of Comic-Con without a guide for what panel discussions you should check out.

This is why we have broken it down for you here with the "10 Movies You Must Check Out at Comic-Con 2013." At the Con, time is precious, so why waste it when history might be being made in the room (or hall) you aren't in?

1Godzilla
Saturday @ 10:45am

Godzilla
Legendary Pictures are poised to make quite an impression as they showcase the newest Godzilla film. This 2013 redo sees one of the world's most iconic and historic monsters going up against a bevy of creatures that have been genetically engineered by humans. The cast is toplined by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn and if that wasn't enough... Bryan Cranston. The screenplay is from Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont and Dave Callaham. Given the history of the beloved Godzilla character, it stands to reason to that this could be one of the most important panels to happen at any Comic-Con in history. Other films that are sharing the panel stage are the supernatural The Seventh Son, the long awaited 300: Rise of an Empire, the intoxicating Gravity, and the ingenious looking The Lego Movie. Again, if time is not your friend at the Con, considering how many massively important, big ticket films are being presented, you've got to add this series of panels to your dance card. It takes place Saturday, July 20 from 10:45am-1:15pm in Hall H.

2Metallica Through the Never
Friday @ 6:30pm

Metallica Through the Never
Alright, it is basically a fact that everybody loves Metallica. However, in this film, visionary director Nimród Antal (Machete) shows viewers this iconic band in ways that they have never seen before. Imagine the Metallica sound being captured in 3D showcasing never-before-seen live performances of their most popular songs. Merged with a narrative that also features the emerging Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), those in attendance will get to watch exclusive preview footage, as well as bare witness to the world premier of the theatrical trailer and the film's poster. Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo, as well as the director, will all be on hand for this once in a lifetime event. If this wasn't enough to pique your curiosity, Metallica are going to be playing a secret show for certain lucky fans. Exit light, enter night and be in Hall H, Friday, July 19th from 6:30pm-7:00pm.

3The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Saturday @ 1:35pm

The Hunger Games Catching Fire
In what has got to be one of the most anticipated movies of 2013, the cast of the sequel to the 2012 blockbuster will be gracing the stage of Hall H for the first time. This second installment sees Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) return home after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games. Heavy is the head that wears the crown however, as Everdeen must now defend her title on a Victor's tour of the districts. As if having the cast in Hall H for the first time wasn't enough, there will also be never-before-seen footage screened. Also on the panel is the highly anticipated I, Frankenstein from director Stuart Beattie. Stars Aaron Eckhart and Yvonne Strahovski, Stuart Beattie as well as the author of the graphic novel, Kevin Grevioux, will also be on hand. You can check all of this out at Hall H on Saturday, July 20 from 1:35pm-2:35pm.

4Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Saturday @ 6:00pm

Captain America The Winter Soldier
If you are on limited time at the Con you're going to want to clear your schedule for this one. Marvel Studios is going to provide fans with a lot of insider information. Aside from the fact that this look at the new Captain America will also feature a look at Thor: The Dark World, Marvel is set to make some major announcements regarding their Phase Three and Phase Four slates! Captain America: The Winter Soldier sees our favorite American (Chris Evans) in the aftermath of the first Avengers film. As he comes to terms with his place in the modern world, Captain America teams up with Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to battle a new threat in our nation's capital, Washington D.C. You will not want to miss Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige as he is poised to unleash some groundbreaking news about the future of Marvel Studios. Special guests are also promised, and if years past are any indication, you'll want to be seated for this! The panel will take place from 6:00pm-7:00pm, Saturday, July 20th in where else... Hall H.

5The World's End
Friday @ 10:00am

The World's End
In this, the final film in the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, Director Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team up for The World's End. The third time's the charm in this tale of five mates who reunite to rekindle some old bar memories, and end up having to save the world in this hybrid, sci-fi apocalypse mash-up. With the big three in attendance, this panel promises to be all time in terms of topics discussed, what fans get to see of this highly anticipated film, and what other antics these comedic geniuses wish to pull out of their proverbial hats. It all goes down from 10am-11am on Friday, July 19 in Hall H. This is an event that will surely set Comic-Con abuzz for years after it happens. Why not be one of the attendees who can say they were there when it happened?

6Veronica Mars
Friday @ 11:45am

The Veronic Mars Movie
It isn't every day that 90,000 fans love a movie so much that they actually pony up the dough to see it made. Well that is exactly what happened with the Veronica Mars movie and now they are bringing the show to Hall H at Comic-Con. While little is known about the movie except for the fact that the entire cast is returning (and they'll be on hand for this Hall H panel discussion), attendees can also see a special video presentation, find out war stories from the production, and also engage in a Q&A with the cast. Second chances in life are rare, in the movie business they are all but non-existent. On Friday, July 19 from 11:45am-12:30pm let Hall H be your portal and return to Neptune once again for one of the most anticipated panels of the Con.

7Riddick
Friday @ 12:15pm

Riddick
When the movie Pitch Black became a surprise hit and made $55 million, a new brand of action star was born in Vin Diesel. Fast forward 13 years plus one sequel, and fans will get a lot more than they bargained for as Diesel, co-stars Katee Sackhoff and Dave Bautista, as well as director David Twohy take the stage at Hall H for this years 2013 Comic-Con panel. In the third installment from this franchise, Riddick finds himself single-handedly battling a race of alien predators. As he signals for help, Riddick gets more than he bargained in who supposedly comes to his aid. The time is ripe for the character of Riddick to claim his throne and this action packed, sci-fi epic is poised to make that happen. Also on the panel will be the stars and filmmakers from the Kick-Ass 2. This installment sees Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz) and Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) all return as a new wave of masked vigilantes come on the scene. Leading that pack is Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey) in a film that promises to be just as off the wall as the first one. Considering Carrey recently disowned his involvement with the Kick-Ass franchise, both panels on Friday, July 19 from 12:15pm-1:15pm promise to be loaded with fireworks.

8The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Friday @ 4:05pm

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
After The Amazing Spider-Man took in almost $800 million at the worldwide box office, it stood to reason that this reboot was going to keep booting. Hall H will once again host a massive panel as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 gets into full swing. With Director Marc Webb, stars Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan said to be in attendance (as well as producers Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach), you are not going to want to miss this panel! Attendees can find out more about Spider-Man's (Garfield) upcoming battle with Electro ( Foxx), as well as what other stories might be in store for this webbed crusader. If this wasn't enough, also at this Sony panel will be the highly anticipated presentation of RoboCop. The remake of this 1987 film is set in 2028. Taking a page out of today's headlines, American drones are winning wars and kicking ass. When police officer Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is injured in the line of duty, a multinational conglomerate uses their science to turn Murphy into the perfect law enforcement killing machine. On hand for this panel will be stars Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson and director José Padilha. These incredible panels take place on Friday, July 19 from 4:05-6:15pm in Hall H.

9Return to Nuke 'Em High
Saturday @ 8:15pm

Return to Nuke 'Em High
We have one word for you...Troma. A couple takes on the glee club at their high school because they've mutated into a gang called The Cretins. Other students start getting infected and it seems like Tromaville High School might have an epidemic on its hands! Presenting this audacious update of the classic 1986 film are none other than Troma President (and Toxic Avenger creator) Lloyd Kaufman, along with Steven Paul, Judah Friedlander and Ron Jeremy among others. Aside from the fact that those participants alone all but guarantee an infamous panel, attendees will get to see clips from this film that is already becoming a classic. Return to to the roots of what Comic-Con is all about... fan fun at its absolute wackiest!! Even if you only know Troma by their name, or from films other than the one featured on this panel, you've got to attend this incredible discussion. This Tromalicious panel will go down Saturday, July 20 from 8:15pm-9:15.

10Divergent
Thursday @ 3:50pm

Divergent
In what might be the sleeper panel of Comic-Con, Thursday afternoon promises to be a lot more interesting than any Comicon-goer will remember once this thing happens. This futuristic saga sees a divided American society in which every citizen must choose a permanent, idealogical faction at age 16 - either their own or another. Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley) is forced to choose between her family, the person she loves, and her own life... all to stop a conspiracy which could have ramifications until the end of time. Based on a best selling novel, this panel will include novelist Veronica Roth, director Neil Burger, and cast members Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, and Mekhi Phifer among others. In this world of panel milieu that is often style over substance, Divergent is that rare film that seeks to engage in a panel discussion that will uplift, inspire and ultimately be a cause for introspection. This panel takes place on Thursday, July 18 from 3:50-4:50.
