No, it should of been higher. If it was higher then it was, then Pirates 4 would be better then it turned out to be.

@themoviefanatic 225-250 million wasn't enough?

Yes, i realized that. I guess if they hade a slightly higher production budget on Pirates 4, then that would not have been a problem.

Well, there was as you put it "fake sequences", in Transformers 3 as well.

@themoviefanatic Don't know about Pirates 4. There were a couple of fake sequences in that.

I'm going to narrow down what i said who it should be that wins. I think it should be either Transformers 3 or Pirates 4 that should win.

@daveactor7 Thor's effects sucked? You've got to be kidding. I'll give you some of the Frost Giants, but look how beautifully constructed Asgard was, the rainbow bridge, and other aspects. I thought it was one of the year's best. Definitely no video game moments in the effects.

@daveactor7 I don't think you'd be saying that if you knew what went into the seamless transition of the actor to Caesar in Rise of the Apes. Serkis did one hell of a job on Caesar, and he's got to be one of the best in the industry.

Thors visual effects sucked total balls no offense xD especially the giant creature in the frost giant world.

@bane5000 Ditto. First Class over Thor? I don't think so.

Very surprised Thor wasnt nominated

@corey @narrator I wouldn't be surprised to see Captain America get in there. Look at the seamless shrinking of Chris Evans they did. These visual effects nuts that vote for this will catch that, maybe moreso than the visuals for something like The Tree of Life.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Harry Potter
Hugo
Those are about the only sure three. Tree of Life really isn't all the showy, the second Transformers film wasn't even nominated (!), X-Men's visuals bordered on cheesy (IMO), Real Steel would lose out to the robots of Transformers before it got in, and Pirates' visuals were underlit and rather boring.
I'm surprised to see M:I-GP on here though. I can't remember any "visual effects" persay in the film that stood out. There aren't creatures or giant visuals?
I would guess Captain America, Tree of Life, and Transformers will battle out the last two spots.

The only film on the list worthy of an Oscar for Visual Effects....Rise of the Planet of the Apes...
Wish 'Anonymous' was on the list .......my reason: "Anonymous" was the first motion picture to be shot with Arriflex's new Alexa camera, with most of the period backgrounds created and enhanced via new CGI technology.!
...side note: Nothing for 'The Muppets'!?. Strange!

Give the award to either Harry Potter or Tree of life. Special effects for Rise was not that good, you could obviously tell what was Cgi. Caesar for example. Though a good film, it loses in this one to me.

Transformers 3 was a mediocre movie at best but the special effects were some of the best I have ever seen. Should win easily.

The Narrator: The Better Man
1. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
2. Tree of Life
3. Deathly Hallows
4. Transformers
5. Hugo
Everything else was good or mediocre, not necessarily great.

Even though there're are much better films than it, I think Transformers always deserves this award. Th film itself is nowhere on par with Apes or Potter, but visual wise, ridiculous!

@moviemaniac66 I think the most stunning effect in it though was the shield, being formed and breaking. When I saw it on DVD, in glorious HD :), stunningly beautiful.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II deserves it. Every effect was jaw dropping from the giants taking out the statues to the extreme detail in Hogwarts itself. Hands down, Harry Potter deserves this award.

It should be Transformers 3, Pirates 4 or Captain America that should win the visual effects oscar. One of those movies should win it in my opinion.
