Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted Terminator movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, Terminator will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are attached to write the screenplay.

Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, The Terminator spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The official press release does not mention the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who confirmed on June 13 that he was set to reprise his lead role as The Terminator in this upcoming sequel. Why this is not mentioned in the press release is unknown. Is it possible that the action icon is no longer attached? Or is he just not signed yet?

David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, World War Z, Star Trek Into Darkness, G.I. Joe Retaliation, and Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. A 5th installment of in the Mission: Impossible franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the G.I. Joe franchise, among other films.

Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award-nominated Zero Dark Thirty, The Master and executive produced Spring Breakers via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell's American Hustle, Spike Jonze's Her, and Bennett Miller's Foxcatcher set for release later this year.

Terminator Genisys comes to theaters July 1st, 2015 and stars Emilia Clarke, J.K. Simmons, Jai Courtney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Matt Smith, Jason Clarke, Byung-hun Lee, Douglas Smith. The film is directed by Alan Taylor.

    @themoviefanatic Doesn't this article mean 5, 6 and 7 though? So 6 is a definite?

  5. Sean

@crypt Well, They will be making a 5th movie. But as for a 6th movie, it may be possible that it could happen. But, it is not confirmed that it will happen.

@vanboy It hardly tanked. It made more than double its budget back just in the US and then some as well as being number 1 its opening weekend. Not bad for an R rated low budget cult film. When I saw it opening day it was with the hardcore fans and they all seemed to love it. As far as reviews, it got mostly good reviews all most sites and stands at 69% on RT, which is hardly sucking. If my praise was the only one, you must not read much. So I say people who say it flat out sucked are haters or are judging without having seen it, like yourself for example.

@QuintsSharkShop, I am and have several true Evil Dead fan friends. I did not go see it, but it tanked in the theaters. My friends all said it sucked, as well as many commenter here on Movieweb. Your praise of the movie is the only on I've ever read.

@themoviefanatic Weird. I was under the impression they were making 5 & 6 to close the series. Oh well, we'll see how it all turns out.

@the-crow2k I don't think that Terminator 5 will be a reboot because if was going to be a reboot, then it would have currently and temporarily been titled as a reboot.

@instead8909 You're joking right? Terminator Salvation was terrible bland movie. It didn't even have Arnold starring in it!

@crypt I believe it may be both.

@Celestialforthcoming Yes, to each his own. They won't make this in an action comedy or musical. That's just not going to happen.

@SoksoV - I agree Dwayne is a much better actor then Arnold even though I think people underestimate his acting abilities. Fans would go apes*** if Kristen Stewart was cast as a Terminator.

@Celestialforthcoming - Tom Hardy as a Terminator is by far the best fan casting I have seen on MW. Hell if anything forget about him playing a Terminator, cast him as John Connor.

Bale and Sam need to come back, Salvation was better than T3 so just finish off that timeline and story arc before moving on.

All this comparison between Dwayne (please stop calling him The Rock ) and Arnold... Imo, Dwayne is a waaaaay better actor than Arnold. Hell even Keanu Reeves and Kristen Stewart could play a Termintor.

How are they even going to come up with a script for this? It seems like the continuity is all over the place and each movie just contradicts the other anyways.

I'm confused... This is a sequel (Terminator 5) or a remake to start a "stand alone" trilogy?

  28. Celestialforthcoming

@sean fair enough, fair enough. To each his own as they would say. Then again, who knows. I was commenting on this article as if they would do a frame by frame remake of it. This is a reboot. For all we know, they can make this into an action comedy or a musical... God, I hope not lol.

  29. Sean

@Celestialforthcoming I don't know. I don't think that I can imagine Tom Hardy as the Terminator. He just doesn't seem right for the role in my opinion. If anyone would be right for the role as the Terminator, it would have to definitely be Dwayne Johnson playing that role.
