Superstar

Superstar

Rated: PG-13
All schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher (Molly Shannon) wants in life is a kiss. Not just any kiss, mind you - a big-time, hold-your-breath-'til-you-think-you're-going-to-faint, bona fide Hollywood-style kiss. But no matter how hard she tries, no one will kiss her. And then it hits her. Mary Katherine realizes the only way she is ever going to get what she wants is to become just like the people she sees getting those kisses in the movies. When Catholic Teen Magazine sponsors a talent contest at her school - along with a grand prize of a free trip to Hollywood and the chance to be an extra in a movie with positive moral values - she sees the opportunity to make her dreams come true. After all, everyone wants to kiss you when you're a SUPERSTAR!

Best Laid Plans

Best Laid Plans

Rated: R
"Best Laid Plans" begins innocently enough with a late-night get-together between two old college friends over drinks. Bryce (Josh Brolin), good-looking and living a charmed existence, has returned home for a visit to Tropico, a town in the middle of nowhere. Nick, a home-town boy who dropped out of college due to his father' illness, is now left with nothing and working at a dead-end job at a local recycling plant. Into the middle of this dubious exercise of Auld Lang Syne walks Lissa (Reese Witherspoon), an alluring young girl who sits down at the bar, crosses her legs and zeroes in on Bryce. She laughs when he spills his drink, Bryce invites her to join them and with a minimum of formalities the reunion adjourns and Bryce takes Lissa back to his place. Later that evening, Nick gets a desperate phone call from Bryce. Arriving at the luxurious pad where Bryce is house-sitting, Nick finds himself in the middle of a situation that is already spiraling out of control. The girl, it turns out, was underage, Bryce was drunk and things got out of hand. When she threatened to call the cops, things got even more extreme. In fact, he reveals, she's still in the house. Nick is the only person Bryce can turn to. Will his old friend help him avoid ruin and prison? What will Nick's help cost Bryce? Even more important to Nick, what will helping Bryce cost him? A suspense-thriller about difficult situations and desperate measures.

Plunkett & Macleane

Plunkett & Macleane

Rated: R
Plunkett (Robert Carlyle) and Macleane (Jonny Lee Miller) are an unlikely, but potent, team. Although from different ends of England's social spectrum, they enter into a "gentleman's agreement." Plunkett has the brains and the know-how; Macleane has the social connections. Stealing from the rich, they give to -- themselves: Plunkett aspires to journey to America, while Macleane seeks to enter high society. Macleane's social ambitions are facilitated by his old friend, the foppish and debauched Lord Rochester (Alan Cumming). Infiltrating wealthy society, Macleane gathers information, which the duo then use to stage holdups of aristocrats' coaches. When the men waylay the coach of the Lord Chief Justice Gibson (Michael Gambon), Macleane falls in love at first sight with Gibson's beautiful, rebellious niece, Lady Rebecca Gibson (Liv Tyler). Macleane courts Lady Rebecca whenever and wherever possible. But Gibson's second-in-command, Thief Taker General Chance (Ken Stott) pursues the highwaymen relentlessly; and pursues Lady Rebecca as well. As danger draws ever closer to Plunkett and Macleane, their daring and loyalty are pushed to the limit.
