Tom Welles (Nicolas Cage) is a surveillance specialist - what used to be known as a "private eye" - but his version of the profession is hardly the stuff of which legends are made. He has a modest, home-based practice in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he lives an existence remarkable only for its normalcy with wife Amy (Catherine Keener) and baby daughter, Cindy. Respected but still waiting for a big break that will improve his professional status, Welles spends most of his time on routine cases involving unfaithful spouses and the like. Nothing too dangerous, nor too threatening...until a small, innocuous-looking plastic reel of film turns Welles' life upside down, sending him down a sordid and terrifying path into society's darkest corners.

24-four year old Carla Tate (Juliette Lewis) is a slightly mentally challenged young woman who, after years of special education at a private boarding school, has successfully transcended many of her limitations -- except that of her over-protective mother, Elizabeth (Diane Keaton). When Carla graduates and returns home with dreams and ambitions, her need for personal fulfillment begins to express itself in ways her mother is unable to accept. When she falls in love for the first time, Carla defies her mother in order to prove that despite all appearances she has the capacity to be a responsible adult, worthy of love and being loved. Embarking on a personal journey of self-discovery, Carla and her boyfriend Danny (Giovani Ribisi) set out together to find answers to some of life's toughest challenges, and to prove that sometimes, an ordinary life can be an extraordinary achievement.

Gary Starke (Andy Garcia) is a ticket scalper extraordinaire who has stayed afloat through a combination of talent, street smarts and an honor-among-thieves philosophy. But after his true love, Linda (Andie MacDowell) dumps him, and a ruthless rival sets his sights on becoming the city's new ticket "master," Gary finds his world falling apart around him. A surprise announcement conspires to change Gary's life: Pope John Paul II is coming to New York for a one time Easter Mass at Yankee Stadium. It is just what Gary has been praying for - the last big score -- his ticket out of this world and the best chance to deliver all he's ever promised to Linda. If he can only pull it off in time... But he can't get around Casino, his ruthless rival. Desperate to deliver, Gary must decide just how badly he wants this "score." Barely one step ahead of the law, Gary presses on against the odds in pursuit of his dreams. But will his efforts and intentions be enough to win back the woman he truly loves?

200 Cigarettes

Rated: R
A comedy set in New York's East Village on New Year's Eve 1981, "200 Cigarettes" follows various young couples and friends whose lives will intersect at a party that night in a downtown loft. Anyone who has been on the town the last night of the year knows the familiar feelings: sentimental recollections, uncertainty about the future and fear that time is running out are mingled with the excitement of a cold winter night and the anticipation of a new love when the clock strikes 12. In "200 Cigarettes," the evening's magic pushes each character to share a secret or create a pact, rush toward calamity or run from danger, break up or hook up. But by evening's end, the characters will have one thing in common: all will be revealed in the clear light of the morning after.
