Thomas Crown is a self-made billionaire who can buy anything he wants and is irresistible to women. But there are some things that money can't buy. Thomas Crown has run out of challenges.
When an alarm sounds at a world class museum and someone walks out with a priceless Monet, Crown is the last person the New York police suspect. But one person suspects him: Catherine Banning, the brilliant female investigator hired to retrieve the painting no matter what it takes. Catherine loves the chase as much as he does and she's on to his game. Crown has found his challenge.
Two can play, but only one can win.
Police detective Michael McCann, played by Denis Leary, warns Catherine that she is getting too close to Crown for either comfort or professionalism - but his concerns may be motivated as much by his growing attraction to her as his worry about her effectiveness on the job.
Ben Gazzara (Happiness, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie) plays Andrew Wallace, Crown's attorney. Frankie Faison (The Silence of the Lambs) plays Detective Paretti, McCann's police partner. Internationally recognized for her appearances in DKNY ads, supermodel Esther Cafladas makes her feature film debut as Anna, the mysterious beauty with whom Crown has a secret relationship.
Faye Dunaway, who staffed in the original The Thomas Crown Affair and won an Oscarg for her role in Network (1976), appears as Crown's psychiatrist.
