A Los Angeles architect, Nick Stark (Eric Roberts), is dying of AIDS. Just before Christmas, he is told that his disease has progressed and he may go quickly or linger in a coma. Not wanting to linger in a slow death, Nick has arranged for his friend, a health-care professional to help him die with dignity -- but not before he gathers everyone he loves for a two-day farewell party.
Nick's mother and sister, his friend, a former love and his estranged father all gather to see Nick for one last time. He draws his guests into a highly- charged atmosphere where opinions collide, secrets spill and old wounds heal as everyone struggles to accept Nick's fate--and their own. Although frustrated by his worsening condition, Nick knows the peace of being surrounded by everyone he loves.
