Typically a chronicle of contemporary pop images, trends and music, the concert film is a pop culture tradition that began a quarter of a century ago with films such as MONTEREY POP and WOODSTOCK. More recently with box office successes such as The Talking Heads' STOP MAKING SENSE, U2's RATTLE & HUM and Madonna's TRUTH OR DARE, the concert film has emerged as a full-blown phenomenon, showcasing extraordinary musical guest artists and performances while exploding at the box office.
Until now, the concert film of the 90's was still waiting to be made. Now three of the most notable entities in film and music have joined forces to bring you THE SHOW, the first movie ever to truly capture the essence of hip-hop -- the most powerful music of our generation.
In conjunction with Russell Simmons, the founder of Def Jam Records and one of the leading forces in hip-hop music, Tollin/Robbins and Rysher Entertainment have assembled a number of today's premiere hip-hop artists to be featured in THE SHOW, including: Run DMC, Warren G, Naughty by Nature and the Wu-Tang Clan. THE SHOW also includes many special appearances by a number of America's hottest hip-hop acts.
THE SHOW offers hip-hop gurus and main-streamers a rare glimpse into the personal and public lives of some of the most notable artists in hip-hop today. Run DMC, the kings from Queens, were the first rap act to score major pop appeal and sales back in 1983. They burst on the scene last year with a new hot album and the smash single Down with the King. Warren G's debut album Regulate has hit double platinum with the title track topping the rap, R&B and pop charts. Naughty by Nature won The Source magazine's New Artist of the Year award in 1991, for their self-titled chart- topping album, while Nineteen Naughty III spawned hip-hop's national anthem and pop hit, Hip-Hop Hooray. Staten Island's own 10-member Wu-Tang Clan went gold and is still climbing the charts with their 1993 release, Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers. Cameras followed the stars of THE SHOW from hotel rooms to limousines, from rehearsals to backstage and finally -- on stage.
THE SHOW glorifies the music and will open people's eyes to a whole new dimension of hip-hop. The concert footage is raw, raucous and startlingly powerful. The documentary footage offers fans and newcomers alike an opportunity to be a part of the inner circle of artists, pushing the hip-hop nation into the future and beyond. This is big-screen 35mm hip-hop as it has never been seen before!
THE SHOW captures the heart and soul of this erupting new musical force through its most popular and controversial leaders. It's about life on the road...about pouring your guts out on stage...about stealing hearts and making headlines...it's a compelling real-life drama about a generation screaming to be heard.
