"The search for love is a universal theme. This film delves into one woman's life as she searches for love, and also to discover who she is and what makes her happy."

- Francine Brokaw
(3/5 Stars)
Nora Wilder (Parker Posey) is in charge of guest relations at a fancy Manhattan hotel. This job puts her in contact with some of the rich and famous, and she is a great "people person." She is good at diffusing sticky situations, but not good at her own life. Nora is lonely, drinks to drown out her sorrow, and has rotten luck with men. She desperately wants to find a man to love and who will love her. Her best friend Audrey (Drea De Matteo) has what seems to be a great marriage, and that is what Nora would love for herself.

With a little push from her mother (Gena Rowlands) Nora agrees not to give up and to stay in the dating market. However she is about to call it quits when she meets Julien (Melvil Poupaud), a nice Frenchman who feels an attachment to her. He is easy to be with, but even so, that does not keep her from experiencing panic attacks and reaching for her tranquilizers. She relies on pills and booze to ease the pain. But Julien does not give up. He realizes she is a troubled woman but needs some TLC. Unfortunately he must return to Paris and after some soul searching Nora follows with Audrey to the city of lights to find the man who could be her true love. Unfortunately, she loses Julien's phone number. With no clue as to where to find him, she steadfastly decides to search the city for him. While on her quest Nora discovers that she needs to feel comfortable with her own life before adding another person into her world.

The search for love is a universal theme. This film delves into one woman's life as she searches for love, and also to discover who she is and what makes her happy. While it is a film about Nora, it will strike a chord in many people who feel love will make everything all right. Are we looking for magic or companionship? That is the question for Nora.
