"It's an intelligent thriller with a twist."

- Francine Brokaw
(3/5 Stars)
"What's the price of revenge?" That's the key to this film. Demi Moore stars as a woman trying to advance her career in the man's world of 1960. She plays Laura Quinn, who is an executive at London Diamond Corporation, but always gets passed over for advancement. She is frustrated but tells herself to work harder and one day she will win.

Michael Caine plays Hobbs, a night janitor at the company. He has his own frustration with the corporation but unlike Laura Quinn, he knows hard work will not solve his issues. Hobbs devises a plan to steal some of the diamonds in the vault, and enlists Laura's help. He knows she is going to be fired, so this information is enough to entice her into getting the vault combination for him. He will do the rest. Although Laura has qualms about aiding the theft, she decides that all her hard work has not paid off, so a few diamonds would be a kind of settlement. After all, with their huge inventory, the company wouldn't miss a thermos full of rough diamonds.

But after the theft, Laura realizes something is not right. Hobbs has other motives than simply money. While not giving away what happens in the film, I can say that his actions put Laura in a difficult situation as the company hires professionals to find the thief. In the end, Laura is confronted with the question - "Will you be a giver or a taker?"

Women today might not be able to relate to some of what Laura goes through, although there is still that glass ceiling for many women. Moore says about her character, "She's someone whose life has been spent with a singular focus. But I think during the course of the movie ... Laura realizes her dream is not what she thought it was going to be." She loved the script from the first moment she read it. "There is nothing predictable in Flawless and that is one of its most attractive aspects, "she says. "This really is an intelligent thriller."

Michael Caine says about the two characters, "It's so unusual because desperation brings them together. But the film is about so many other things as well - politics, class, and the fact that female executives can hit a glass ceiling and can get very annoyed about it."

This is, as Moore says, an intelligent thriller.
