Zack and Miri Make a Porno: Review By The CryptKeeper

All you people on this site know how much I hate most of the comedy genre. but for this one, my curiosity got the best of me. I got it because it was close to free, and well, with a title like that, who wouldn't be at least somewhat interested? Plus I like Elizabeth Banks, so I thought I'd try it. It was the second most raunchy, dirty movie I've ever seen, first being Scary Movie. However, I found it to be a guilty pleasure. I am ashamed to say that... yea... I did like it.

I really didn't even know there was a storyline. I mean, of course there would be, but I never did any research to find out what it was. I mean, with the title, I didn't feel that I had to. It's about Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) who have been friends since the first grade, and are now living together. They aren't dating, sleeping together, or married, nothing like that. They're "just friends". They both are poor, and in debt. They're about to get kicked out of their house, because they can't pay any of their bills, or rent. So they debate on what to do... and they come up with making a porno film! Now, the story is obviously going to have some very... dirty content in it. Sometimes it went overboard with that stuff. But most of the time, the crudeness was presented in a way that was actually slightly funny. Basically no humor in the movie is clean though.

I am not a Seth Rogen fan, mainly because I have never seen one of his films. I've never seen one because they all looked bad. Knocked Up, Pineapple Express, and Observe and Report all look awful. In this he did just ok. I don't hate the guy as much as I thought I would if I ever saw him on film. I could see he had some potential, but the movie didn't allow him to use it fully. Elizabeth Banks is a total hottie, but I can't really say if she's a good actress or not. Because she's never been able to show off acting skills. I mean, she was in Slither, and Role Models, but neither of them require much acting skills. But anyway, she did a good job, even though you don't need any skill to do this movie. It's just a comedy.

The director is Kevin Smith. Never seen any of his other movies, and I don't really want to. But he does sometimes good, sometimes bad. He kind of makes the crude conversations go on a little longer than he needed to. It's like "Ok, I get it. So just stop it." but I actually liked that the porn scenes weren't as bad as I thought they'd be, and I felt bad laughing at them.

I don't really know how to rate visuals. I mean, the porno scenes certainly didn't turn me on. But Elizabeth Banks was great to look at! So, great visuals I guess... And no, sorry guys, she doesn't do nudity in this film. haha

So, it's a decent movie. I recommend it if you are a fan of crude comedies that are all about sex, and yea... but me, someone who doesn't enjoy all that stuff as much as the next guy, the film really looses some points, because of all the crude dialogue going on longer than it needed to... and most of all... the naked guy at the end.

That was my old review, I bought this, watched it a bunch if times since, now here at May 12th, 2009- I love this movie. Like I say, it goes overboard a few times, but overall- this is one of the best comedies ever, Kevin Smith is awesome, and I'm saying that after only seeing one of his movies- Zack and Miri Make a Porno... I might need to re-review this, because all that stuff in inaccurate- the funniest movie ever!
