i just wanted to get that out of the way right now, because the clear, intelligible and thoughtful speech patterns from everyone in the movie was the first thing that i noticed even before realizing that this movie has a brilliant cast including the likes of steve buscemi, ray liotta, fred willard, justin long (whose acting was miles ahead of his awful performance in that crapfest called "zack and miri waste your time in an awful piece of sh*t movie" or whatever it was called) and of course, zack galifianakis who plays a charming albeit trashy human being who is dating michael cera's character's mom.
all in all i would say this movie was pretty likable, despite the fact that i was basically forced to watch it against my will by a human with a vagina who knew that on my own accord i would never have seen it given my prejudice against movies that can be called "coming of age".
in my defense though i did not know that steve buscemi or zack galidontfeelliketryingtorememberhowtospellitagainakis were even in the movie.
it is wrought with intelligent humor, a satirical look at the angst of youth and the standardized teenage depression, stabbing albeit dryly delivered mean-spiritedness (the best kind of mean-spiritedness, in my opinion), split-personality chaos, amusing animation and stop-motion interludes, a magic mushroom scene and a teenage girl so hot i would consider throwing statutory caution to the wind just to smell her underwear.
i say check it out; despite being describable as a "coming of age" movie it is an interesting, funny and intelligently written story worthy of your time.
(ed.note-- the "teenage" girl in question is actually 22; the bit about "throw(ing) statutory caution to the wind" was only a joke and not meant to be taken seriously)
