The director of this film, is one that I definitely have heard of, but am not sure if I've seen any of their films(feel free to recommend some, if you'd like). Brooks definitely has great vision for this movie, giving us a movie that is both spooky, as well as hilarious. His visions for the movie are definitely hilarious, and worth seeing. I think, now, that I've heard his name involved in many huge movies now, all of which I wouldn't be able to tell you at the present movie, see I'm doing these reviews the old fashioned way, since at the moment my internet is down. That's right, I'm going by memory, cover of DVD, and credits on the screen. lol. It's been working so far, so I haven't any complaints, I just can't check to see if I've seen any of the actors, the writers, or the directors do anything else. Anyhow, Mel Brooks definitely knows what it is that he is doing because he delivers us a great and hysterical film. This is also helped along by the fact that both the Screenplay AND the Story were written by himself, and the main actor, Gene Wilder(Now him, I know). They both do a great job with this movie, delivering us an ironclad comedy spoof/horror, and making it so that we were laughing throughout the entire movie! It really was hilarious, and these two knew exactly what they were doing, giving us a real laugh riot, which is something you won't hear me say often. I should add too that this is not what you'd expect it to be. It's pretty much a spoof sequel to the original classic "Frankenstein" which was created from characters made by Mary W. Shelley(The author of the book that the movie was based upon, which came out around the same time that Bram Stoker's Dracula did.) Anyhow, the characters are based from Shelley's book, and are as funny as ever in this movie.
The visuals in this movie are definitely something worth mentioning, as well as worth watching, this time. The movie's first big surprise for me, was that it's presented in Black and White, which is something that I have absolutely no problem with, but I was surprised nonetheless because no one had told me that it was infact a Black and White film, I thought I'd mention that so that anyone who reads this review and decides to go and see it, then they won't be surprised, and/or angry, if they don't like Black and White films, and/or are annoyed by them(I know, it sounds like a dumb reason not to want to see a movie, but I've run across people like this, and it's best that I not get yelled at incase any of you reading this are like that, lolz.). Anyhow, the look to the characters in black and white was absolutely creepy, as well as hilarious at some points in the film. The Frankenstein Monster definitely was an interesting to look to put on Peter Boyle(May he rest in peace), as well as the look for Marty Feldman(May he also rest in peace) as he played Igor. They're definitely old graphics, yet they're done perfectly, and are really really interesting to see in the movie. I also liked how that at the end they insinuated the bride of Frankenstein, and how she looked most definitely like the original Bride of Frankenstein. Now I want it known here that I've never seen any of the original Frankenstein movies, yet alone any movie with Frankenstein that wasn't a cartoon, so I really can't compare except for what I've seen in the movies. However, I also liked the look of everything, it all looked so authentically black and white, even though I'm sure that the movie came out at a time that Color was in use. Let me here explain why the fact that it was schocking to me that the movie was in black and white was. It was because all of the cover is in Color. Which, I know, most Black and Whites are probably like that, but the only ones that I've seen have been in covers that are in black and white. Anyhow, teh visuals in this movie are definitely worth watching, and are definitely done by people who know what it is that they are doing. Though it's old, it's definitely something to see visually.
The storyline, though based from a classic horror movie/book and it's characters, is definitely an original idea. As I've said, this movie offers kind of a sequel to the original. It's definitely one that you get into right away(If, like I said, you are someone who doesn't mind that the movie is in Black and White.), and you just don't stop laughing until the credits roll, even then, you still can't stop laughing because it's so funny! Like I've also said, this is one original story, and that's one of the things I like about the old comedy movies, is that they offer us ORIGINAL stories, instead of today's bull sh*t comedies where the only new thing offered is a new way to smoke a joint, or a new bong, or perhaps even a new sex position. These comedies, like "Young Frankenstein," are what I miss about comedy movies, and if I had enough resources to put together petitions, then I'd definitely be protesting to have the old types of movies back because it's just rediculous, to me anyway, the bullsh*t we get for comedy movies. (This tirade, I hoe everyone knows, is not to offend, but it felt good to finally express all my thoughts where it seems that it would be prudent to say them, and so I did. No offense to anyone, and I know that these kind of movies are exactly what most kids, and even most adults, today want in a comedy movie, and I know there is little that I can do about it, no matter how much I'd like to do something.) Anyhow, the movie. This movie is about the grandson of the famous Transylvanian scientist, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, and he is approached one day at the school where he teaches, and is offered the will of his grandfather, and this will sends him into the heart of Transylvania, to the huge castle that looms there. Here he finds the old manuscripts of his grandfather, and sets into motion the creation of an incredibly horrible, yet awesome scientific breakthrough, the ability to give life to what seems to be dead for good. However, the townspeople of Transylvania have not forgotten about the late Dr. Frankenstein, and do not trust his grandson, as they think that he is up to the same thing that his grandfather was up to, no matter how much he protests that he is not. The story, as I've said, gets your attention very fast, and keeps you interested throughout the entire thing, making you laugh and laugh and laugh. It's definitely worth the watch, and it's something that you'd most likely never tire of, and I know that I most likely won't tire of it either. Definitely an original and hilarious story.
Starring in the lead role of this film, as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, is none other than one of our most beloved, and one of our most missed actors, Gene Wilder(Many of you know him as Willy Wonka, a part later picked up by Johnny Depp). Dr. Frederick Frankenstein(Or Fraankensteen, as he says) has tried to get himself out of the view of the public, as being the son of the late and demented scientist, Dr. Victor Frankenstein. This constantly goes unnoticed however, as many of his students constantly berrate him with questions about his grandfather, and about his grandfather's work, as well as belittling him and making it seem like he knows nothing of what he talks about. It is during one of his lectures at a school that he is approached by a strange man, and given the will of his late grandfather. He is then forced to go to Transylvania to work out some things in the will, and is as well, forced to leave his fiance behind. When he arrives in Transylvania he is met by his brand new assistant, Igor. He also finds that he has a new laboratory assistant, Inga. As he goes along, he finds that there is far more behind the mystery of his grandfather than he had thought, and at first he stays in the castle, not really knowing what it is he is doing there, but goes along anyhow. That's when he and Inga hear strange music coming from behind some bookshelves, and as they search around, they find that there is a secret passage there, and that it leads down into a mysterious cellar in the castle, where they discover the secret library of the old doctor, and they find his work on bringing life back to that which is dead, and immediately set to work on it. They are surprised to find that it's all there, so easily to find. Soon, Dr. Frankenstein, Igor, and Inga set to work, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, and bringing to life the body of a dead man. However, they soon find out that this is going to be something far beyond what they comprehended, after there is a problem getting the right brain, and the monster turns on everyone, and acts killer. However, the Doctor is able to get the creature sedated and settled down. Soon however, the monster escapes, and heads out on what they assume is going to be one major killing spree, and soon they are left with very few options as to what to do about it, as now it seems that Frederick is being bombarded by questions about his work here in the castle, by the susp*cous and untrusting Transylvanian citizens. All this time, Frederick seems to be falling in love with his lovely lab assistant, Inga. Gene Wilder is one of my favorite old actors, and in this movie I have found my favorite performance of his. He just delivers this character with such greatness, and awesomeness, that it makes me positive that he knew what he was doing as an actor, a fact which I never doubted anyway. He delivers this character's emotions, troubles, and worries, as well as his struggle to break through in the field of science, with such greatness. Delivering a role that is both incredibly convincing, and incredibly believable, as well as a role that you can feel for and relate to. He was definitely a great casting choice for this movie.
Starring in this movie as the Frankenstein Monster 2.0(as I like to refer to it as, lol), is none other than Peter Boyle(Whom many know as Ray's father on "Everyone Loves Raymond") which is another actor that I miss. The Frankenstein Monster in this was created from the bodies of many men and made to be large so that he can capacitate the forces needed to bring him to life, and so he is. He seems to be good at first, but due to a goof of Igor's he gets the wrong brain, and is suddenly this massively lethal and destructive monster. As he tries to kill his creator, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, he is suddenly sedated and found captive again. However, when he comes to, the strange in keeper at the castle is about to release him, when suddenly Dr. Frankenstein, Igor, and Inga are there, and are trying to stop her from releasing him, when he breaks free. This is where we learn something strange and hilarious about this particular Frankenstein's monster, and that is the fact that he is easily calmed, as long as you play him a certain song on the violin, because it's in his blood to be calm him because apparently, it's what calmed the first monster, lol. However, soon, the music is stopped, and the monster rages out of the castle and heads to the unsuspecting(Well, kind of, they did think that Frederick was up to the same thing as his granfather, lol) to cause terror. That's where he meets a nice blind man(Played by none other than Gene Hackman), who gives him some soup, or at least tries to, as well as some wine, well, at least he tries to again, lol. And then while giving the monster a cigarette, the blind man accidently lights the monster's thumb on fire, and that's another thing about the monster, he's scared to death of any kind of fire, even if it's from the smallest of objects. As he rages around some more, he runs into a little girl, and we all expect him to murder her, but this is not what happens, the monster is then found playing with the little girl, then onto the teetertotter, where the girl is promptly launched into a window, you gotta see it for yourself, it's hilarious. Anyhow, that's when he goes wandering again, and here's the song, and it calls him towards it, where he is promptly captured by Dr. Frankenstein, and kept within the chambers. There, Dr. Frankenstein melds him into a good citizen, portraying a perfect specimen, but when he is showed to the scientific community(Where he does a tapdancing routine, XD) he is scared by some fire, and then made fun of by the crowd, sending him back to his old destructive self. Peter Boyle, as I've said, is an actor whom I miss, and I'm sure thousands, even millions, of others miss, and in this movie he delivers such an awesome performance. Though the monster doesn't really talk, his facial expressions say it all, portraying all the monster's curiosity, his anger, and his other feelings incredibly well, and makes this probably one of the funniest characters of the entire movie. He delivers a convincing as well as believable performance, and it's definitely one that you can really feel for, and relate to(well, maybe, lol). He was definitely a great casting choice for this strange and hilarious part, and I'll definitely miss him, which I already do.
Starring in this movie as the incredibly hilarious and creepy Igor, is Marty Feldman(I'm not sure if it's any relation to Corey, so please don't ask, lol). Igor(Or Eyegore as he claims after Frankenstein corrects him on his name) is an incredibly quirky character, but he works non stop for Frankenstein, acting as a sort of mentor for him in Transylvania, as well as being his little henchman, helping with everything. Igor is set to do most of the dirty work for Dr. Frankenstein, but he doesn't mind, and he is the one assigned to find the brain for the monster, but as he goes to get it, he drops the one that Dr. Frankenstein wants, and grabs one that is marked "Abnormal Brain," but doesn't think to tell Dr. Frankenstein, and when the monster awakens, Igor is pretty much attacked because of it, but it's in a comical way, and you can't help but laugh your ass off as everything unfolds. Igor also helps to find Dr. Frankenstein's lovely assistant, Inga, who is played by none other than Teri Garr, whom I've seen in some other things, and who in this anyway, is also very good looking. Inga does everything for the Doctor, and sort of acts like eye candy throughout the whole thing. Screaming in all the right parts, and making everyone laugh as she misinterprets the doctor's comments for sexual innuenda. It's quite hilarious to see her in this, and as things go on, it seems that Inga isn't really scared of the Monster, even though it's loose. Ha! That's a joke, she's the one who screams, and asks that no one go after him, and that kind of character. She, however, begins to fall deeply in love with Frederick, and even gets to get in bed with him, but they're interrupted, lol. She really was good looking in this one though, and she's the one that sort of deals with everyone, even the Doctor's wife, who is played by Madeline Kahn, I'm not sure if she's related to James, so don't ask please lol. The fiance of the Doctor is just your average not caring person at all, and she seems to be one of those demanding characters who makes them do everything that she asks. When she decides to visit her fiance in Transylvania, she comes at pretty much the exact moment that Frederick and Inga are in bed, but they escape her knowing, and while she is getting ready for bed one night, she is whisked away, and scared to death by the Monster. Well, her hair whitens in two streaks, one on either side(Yeah, you know where this is going, lol). She is then wooed by the monster, and uh, lays him, and falls in love with him. So thus, she becomes The Bride of Frankenstein. All three of these actors do an incredible job, and just make the movie great. Marty Feldman makes Igor so funny, and brings out all of the character's little quirks, jokes, and every other little thing, and makes them so funny and realisitic. Teri Garr does great as Inga, making her role as the little blonde helper that wants nothing more than to assist, and then falls in love with a man she seemingly can't have, all so realistic, and hilarious. Madeline Kahn does great in this sort of prude and stuck up role, and makes all of the character's little ticks, feelings, as well as her horrified scream all so realistic, and wonderful. They all three deliver convincing and beliveable roles, as well as ones that make you feel for them, as well relate to them(Well, sort of, in some cases, lolz). They, all three, were definitely great casting choices for these roles, and for the movie overall.
All in all, this is another comedy movie that you cannot afford to miss. It's just an awesome and hilarious, yet slightly spooky movie. Any fan of horror, or also any other fan of horror movies, or even those who love the old school spoof movies, would love this movie, and laugh their way throughout the entire thing. This was just such an awesome, and hilarious movie, that writing this review, makes me remember it, and laugh as I write, and I just loved it! You will too, when you read this review and go to see the movie! This film's awesome directing, which is done by someone who definitely has great visions, and knows what it is that they are doing, is helped along by the fact that the writers are pure genius in creating a story. The visuals in this movie help it out even more, creating interesting angles as well as characters to behold, and to laugh at, depending what the mood is in. The storyline, as I've mentioned makes the fact that the movie ruled even better because it gives us an awesome storyline that grabs at your attention, and keeps you laughing throughout the entire thing. This is all helped along by the fact that all of the actors know exactly what it is that they are doing, and all deliver great convincing and beliveable roles, as characters that you can sort of relate to and feel for(In some cases, or rather, MOST cases, there might be a couple of exceptions, lol.). Everything about this film was done great, and it makes you laugh throughout the entire thing. I know what you're thinking, "Spoof movie? F*ck it! We've been let down by those far too much!" and in most cases, I'd probably agree with that, but this is one of the original Spoof Movies, and it's done wonderfully, and hysterically, and it's definitely worth the watch! I know that it's now one of my new favorite horror movies, as well as one of my new favorite movies of all time!!!!!

Raoul Duke I was talking V2k, mainly about Brooks, and I don't think, majority will favor his movies only the minority, which we are in, now a days Hollywoodland would rather destroy another's work with stupid sh*t like Disaster Movie, Epic movie, Scary Movies, types of comedy, rather then make a full out good comedy movie that's funny till the end, their focus is more on the fiat and demographic, teens/ young adults, who don't know about movies, rather then people who do, here's a prime example why is the first 3 Die Hard's rated "R", and part 4 rated "PG-13", if the kids who are going to see the new one either not alive or couldn't see the first ones, answer the studios are trying to get that money, from that demographic and are willing to sacrifice the work.

Raoul Duke
Yeah, I know he wrote for Get Smart. I just want to see him come back and direct a whole new Brooks comedy. The dude is probably the single greatest comedic writer and director, and not too bad of a comedian himself. It just seems that this day and age is starving for a more, how do is say this, classical comedy. Brooks comedy is a universal humor. Most comedies these days seem as if they are focused to a specific audience and Brooks comedies hit home with just about anyone who watches them. I dunno, I just want Hollywood to get back to the roots of comedy. Maybe I'm just rambling. lol Either way, the world needs more Mel in their lives.

Are you f*cking kidding me V2k, you haven't seen any of Mel Brooks' movies except this, you got to start seeing and getting more movies, like Raoul Duke said, Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, The Producers, but see these also High Anxiety, History of the World Part 1 , Robin Hood: Men in tights, and Dracula Dead and Loving it, these are all great movie of Mel's, and I pretty sure Gene Wilder is still alive just not in the lime light, or maybe that's what you meant, either way I agree with this review, but I would have given it a 5 out of 5.
