Opening with a huge battle between Queen Hippolyta and Ares in a time period long ago, it sets the pace for this fast moving, but very satisfying origin story. After the battle and Ares being captured and detained, Hippolyta is granted a beautiful daughter, formed in sand and made living by Hippolyta's own blood, Princess Diana (Wonder Woman) was born. As the amazons live peaceably on an island called Themyscira, isolated from the rest of the world of man, a pilot named Trevor is shot down in an aerial dog fight, crash landing and invading their tranquil world. While he is quickly captured by Diana and kept at close watch, amazon Persephone commits betrayal against bookworm amazon Alexa, murdering her and setting Ares free, whom Persephone had fallen in love with over the course of centuries. Diana wins a gladiatorial contest to determine who will represent the amazons in the world of men at the same time, and after hearing of Alexa's murder and Ares' escape, her and Trevor chase down Ares in an epic battle.
Even though I'm a guy, I still greatly admire Wonder Woman. She is strong, beautiful, intelligent, and believes in a true equality between man and woman. I can't help but respect that image she gives off. Keri Russell does a great job giving voice to her.
At first I found the classical way the amazons and gods and goddesses spoke a bit disconcerting, but after a while I enjoyed it. There is several actual laugh out loud moments with the culture clashes between Trevor and the amazons that I found witty.
Moving at a brisk pace, awesome action as per usual with DC animated movies, and ending on a note that begs for a sequel (and one I'd gladly watch), Wonder Woman is my new favorite DC movie. Here's to wishing for a live action version!

Man, I just rewatched this. They are so dumb for not giving it a sequel, its such high quality. Great people for the voices, too.

Marvel was the #1 comic company for a long time. Only just recently in the past 5-10 years, DC has taken that spot back. I blame a lot of it on Marvel making Joe Quesada the Editor-In-Chief and doing Civil War. DC on the other hand has been pumping out good stuff, with great writers like Geoff Johns and Jeph Loeb on exclusive contracts. But yeah, Marvel marketed their heroes better for years. DC is trying though, they did Blackest Night, and they are trying some new things. But I think we covered what should be done with the animated movies of both companies.

It just feels like Marvel has about twenty-thirty characters even non comic book readers can name off the top of their head, while DC has about ten, and half of those are villains of Batman and Superman(Joker, Penguin, Lex,etc.) Marvel seems to do a much better job marketing their overall product.

@CBF I enjoy the animated movies more then the live action counterparts, and they have to be retarded not to think those names you threw out there would make great movies. Who knows, studios can always change their minds, but its obvious the wrong people are in authoritative positions on both Marvel and DC.

@REAL @ejk1 I agree with both of what you guys said. It's too bad that Marvel doesn't care about their animated PG-13 films, though, otherwise some of those properties you mentioned, ejk1, would have made some fine stand alone movies. And not to mention great competition for the DCU line. Too bad the top contenders in the Marvel line they put out were Iron Man and two Hulks. I feel the opposite about the Marvel line: whereas I think DC should put out the lesser knowns, I feel that Marvel should have put out the better knowns. It would have been great to see a PG-13 Spider-Man, X-Men, or Fantastic 4/Silver Surfer. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Doctor Strange, though.

Hmmm....it's amazing that Warner Bros. would cripple the DCU in this way. instead of building up, they are minimizing. They should look at how successful the Justice League cartoon was, and recognize that many of the JL:Unlimited series focused on other characters. I look at it like a sports team. A team can win games on the backs of one or two players, but rarely do they win the championship. They need stars, and a solid supporting cast. DC may have the two biggest stars(Batman and Superman), but Marvel has the better lineup(Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, etc). If WB allowed DC to showcase the supporting players to the masses more often, then they could rise up a few levels. Until that happens, Marvel has the upper hand.

I hate execs and studios, smothering good ideas all the time.

@ejk1 Yeah well, hopefully Apocalypse sells well, and also hopefully WB says ok we'll let you do what you guys want now. I don't think that will happen, but I think it's ridiculous WB would restrict Timm and Co. when the sole purpose to this line is so they would get a chance to do the lesser knowns. After GL: First Flight they were supposed to continue down the line with The Flash, and so on. But WB said nope - just put out more Supermans, Batmans, and Justice Leagues. Which is going to make me stop buying 'em. I already have enough Supes and Bats.

I agree with CBF and REALsupes. I'd like to see Birds of Prey, Zatanna, and Gotham City Sirens in animated features.

I never knew that the animated comic book films could be this good.

Me too. My favorites from DC are basically Supergirl and Wonder Woman, though, and they made those so I'm happy.

That's stupid. I like a lot of the female superheroes, too.

Good straight-forward review. You kinda dropped a spoiler about Alexa and Persephone, but hey, I don't mind I've seen it. Looks as if we won't get that sequel, though, did you hear the news about WB execs saying no more female heroines or B-listers from now on? Which is why they re-titled Superman/Batman: Supergirl to Apocalypse.

I know, but hopefully from this pool of actresses, we'll get one in a TV show, and one in a movie series.

No, I'll have to check that out. I forgot that a show was in the works... I'd be more excited at the prospect of a movie, though.

True. By the way, have you gone to IGN tonight? They have a list of actresses that they'd like to see play Wonder Woman in the TV show. I've got to say, I'm intrigued by the possibility of Rachel Nichols play WW.

The beauty of Netflix my friend. That monthly service fee allows me to keep up to date with a lot of straight to dvd releases. It is my secret weapon against the wallet! Muhahaha. :)

Ugh, I know. I will find time hopefully soon, but I've fallen somewhat behind. I've still got to buy Kick-Ass, and later this month the Trigun box set comes out, so I've got much to watch. Hopefully, I can collect them all, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanks. I just watched Red Hood as well. So between this one, Red Hood, and Apocalypse, you got some catching up to do :)
