If you never watched Winnie the Pooh as a child (or at any time in your past), stop reading this review now. This movie is not for you. This film has a certain liveliness and bounce to it. To try and channel that in my review, I made it rhyme!

--

The kids of the 70s found nostalgia in Super 8

But us kids of the 90s need no longer wait!

It's charming, adorable, and hilarious too.

Our childhood returns in Winnie the Pooh!

--

Before the actual film, we get a brief short feature

It's about a dragon, Nessie, the fabled Loch-Ness creature.

It's simple, direct, a sort of whimsical folklore,

But it had a closing moral I had never heard before!

Instead of the cliché lessons that just induce a sigh

This short film assured children that it's okay to cry.

--

The neat beginning finished, and it was so far, so good

The time had come to venture to the Hundred-Acre Wood.

Nostalgic, cutesy songs, sung by Zooey Deschanel.

Brought me back to childhood and had me in a spell.

"Winnie the Pooh! Winnie the Pooh!"

I could sing you the whole song, but you wouldn't want me to.

--

The story is twofold, but they both involve Pooh.

He must find Eeyore a tail, but he wants honey, too.

But soon the big problem is Christopher Robin

"He's been stolen!" claims Owl, and the friends begin sobbin'.

No worries, you see. They've come up with a plan!

They must capture the monster as fast as they can.

--

So, in typically silly and adorable form

Pooh and his friends work in the lovable norm:

Rabbit bosses them and gets fed up with Pooh

Piglet hides in fear, Kanga watches Roo.

Tigger causes mischief, Owl likes to quip.

Oh, and there's Eeyore, who doesn't give a rip

--

Pooh is a genial, clueless ol' fellow.

He's rumbly, tumbly, and goldenly yellow.

Though he's empty up north, his heart bursts at the seams.

To help out his friends, he'll go to many extremes.

--

This film is quite basic, the moral is routine.

Put your friends first, it's something we've seen.

But if a tedious lesson could ever seem so fresh

Winnie the Pooh could sure do it the best.

--

In something that hasn't happened in years

Pooh had me laughing, nearly in tears.

From the scene with the rope, to that bit with the sneeze

Or when Pooh uses Piglet to get honey from bees!

At the end, my sides ached from laughter

I walked out feeling so happy right after

--

Pooh, he's timeless. No gimmicks can surpass him.

With the help of his friends, he crosses every chasm.

This is a film they could have easily botched

But it brought back the memories of all the Pooh I have watched.

--

Now I hope this Seussian style was no distraction

What can I say? This inspired a reaction.

The movie's short and lively, worthy of family funds.

It's the perfect first movie for the youngest little ones.

It's hysterical, wholesome, and always sincere.

In short, "Pooh" is the best family film of the year.
