Who Framed Roger Rabbit was a film way ahead of its time. The animation is still impressive today, and the way it seamlessly blends animation with live-action is truly groundbreaking. Bob Hoskins is great in the lead role as an alcoholic detective grieving the death of his brother (and partner) at the hands of a "toon" ("dropped a piano on his head"). While the film makes iconic characters of Roger and Jessica Rabbit themselves, it also has cameos from the biggest names in animation (Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Betty Boop, and Droopy Dog, among others) so much so that I was shocked that Zemeckis got the rights to so many characters in the film, especially as there are some pretty hard PG jokes that don't exactly jive with Disney's image.

The humor is very good, and the film works as not only a slapstick adventure comedy but also a satire on animation and Hollywood itself. I don't know how it took me so long to see this but it's definitely a benchmark in animated films.
