The film (and comic) is set in an alternate universe, where superheroes are now outlawed and President Nixon is still president after completing a second term. The opening credits of the film show a complete evolution into how the Minute Men became Watchmen and how they are no longer wanted. Although it is illegal to be a vigilante The Comedian, Dr. Manhattan and Rorschach continue with ‘heroism’.
The film was pretty good. In all honesty the novel was extremely better but it was true and that’s what counts. The best actor of the film was probably Jackie Earle Haley who portrayed Rorschach (I think he should be nominated for best actor-at any award ceremony). Another actor who was great was Jeffrey Dean Morgan who portrayed Edward Blake/The Comedian.
I was a little disappointed with the change in ending. I won't explain exactly what it is. As you can tell, only if you read the novel, what the differences are. Some maybe minor and some are major. Overall it was true the comic.
