Watchmen: Review By FatWeasel
The superman doesn't care about humanity. Batman can't get an erection. And the bad guy wants peace. Can't get any better than that.

The company credits (Paramount, DC etc.). How on Earth Snyder made this cool is beyond me. But it was. The logos in jet black on a "Comedian-Badge"-yellow background. Looks straight out of the 80's.
Enough of that :D.
The frame then zooms out to reveal the comedians badge and then eventually his aged, scar-ridden face watching television with an ice-cold whiskey.
(I'm sure you know how this goes..)
But the fight scene here was amazing. A decent, lengthy punch-em up. Until ofcourse, he is launched out the window to an ice-cold death (without the whiskey).
Okay, enough of my first impression, onto the review.
The directing of the film was definitly unique. Was it great? .. Yes. There is something about 'Watchmen' that seperates itself from any other movie. Think of it as if movie's lived on Earth. Watchmen would teleport to Mars every now and then just to make a point and show us how unique (and awesome) it is.
The acting, despite the fact the actors weren't the biggest actors out there, defined the movie to a point only these select actors could. Now, before I saw the movie, I thought Matthew Goode as Ozymandias wouldn't be that great, but suprisingly enough, he was one of the best in the film. Dont ask me why.
Visual Effects. Wow. Breathtaking. Dr. Manhattan looked as real as any of the other characters which really kept the illusion of the story going. Let's just say, he was no infected human from 'I Am Legend'. Whether its people teleporting, stuff blowing up, or Dr. Manhattan's glass palace's constantly shifting pieces, the visual effects were great.
Now the only complaint I could muster was this "Perhaps its TOO faithful to the story?". Sure, there were parts from the book missing. Who cares? The bits that were missing weren't important! Keep this in mind before viewing the movie, alot of the film is mainly origins. There is a good twenty-minute flashback for each character. But they are vital, so deal with it.
Soundtrack. I've heard people say it was "crap" or "average at best". They didn't understand it was set in the '80s. So all the music was fromt he 70s/80s and fitted in so well. Awesome. Whether it be the opening credits with Bob Dylan's "The times they are a' changin'" or the Comedians-inevitable-death-fight with Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable" playing while fists are flying and blooding dropping. Or even while on Mars, Dr. Manhattan has a sudden realisation and after a heroic speech by the Doctor himself, we view Mars from afar, see him teleport and Jimi Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower" begins to play. Epic.
So if my review was a little unclear. My verdict is that it was a really great movie, despite the 3 hour run-time. I extremely enjoyed it.
5 Stars
Before I go, I'll try and relate this review to everyone so I'll answer the ultimate question running through all your heads.
"Is it better than the Dark Knight?"
Well.. In all fairness, they are completely differant types of stories.
But I did enjoy it more than The Dark Knight. Perhaps the combination of Sex, Graphic Violence, Humor and Story did it for me. Where The Dark Knight was more violence and story.
They are both equally great movies in thier own genres. But I do like Watchmen more than The Dark Knight.
Then we come back to "Is it better than the Dark Knight?". Well I'm not answering that. Who is able to judge what is better than anything else?
The review of this movie is very much a personal affair as it is unbiased.
So my advice, see it for yourself. It is only then, that you can truly know how to judge this movie.
Right, thats me done. Now I shall leave you with on of my favourite quotes from the film.
"A live body and a deceased body contain the same number of particles. Structurally, there's no difference. Why should I care?"
-Dr. Manhattan
