After the crush of anticipation this movie has gotten from the true faithful and beyond, "Watchmen" will likely satisfy every fanboy's hopes and dreams of having 'the unfilmable graphic novel' brought to reverent life. It does just that and so much more! So much of the original comic is directly lifted and slavishly transposed to film; imagery, shot composition, whole conversations of dialogue. All amazingly re-created with a great cast, sweeping cinematography, perfectly page-captured costume design, and a great offbeat score. Several portions of the graphic novel are certainly condensed here. But I didn't let that bother me because Zach Snyder has promised a 3 hour and 30 minute long Director's Cut to be released theatrically in July (for a limited engagement) to be followed by the big honking special edition DVD.

This was the right way to go for a graphic novel that has continued to be a milestone in the comic world. Pandering to a wider audience by updating and changing many of the iconic nuances of the book would have ruined this movie. Making it purely for THE FANS was a brilliant move! More directors (and studios) should be so bold in the future.

NO ONE ELSE could have pulled this off as perfectly as Zack Snyder!

I agree completely, this movie was better that anything I saw in 2008. It was utterly amazing!
