... a ... parable of taking life in stride or taking it by the horns, contentment vs clarity.

Waitress, like similar films Juno and Amelie, boasts sublime performances and a clever script that maintain the qualities of being both quirky and poignant at the same time. Russell and Griffith are the standouts here, and the way they play their relationship is touching.

Despite losing focus slightly in the third act, it comes around in the end to culminate in a well-meant parable of taking life in stride or taking it by the horns, contentment vs clarity. A memorable final film from writer/director Adrienne Shelley, whose life was tragically taken shortly after this film was made.
